    Hi,
How come I can get cheaper fares via ThomasCook than direct with the airlines? Is there any catch here?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
still looking for a cheap flight  since my Virgin direct to Las and retunr from Lax is £750!! I found a flight with Northwest via Atlanta (total of 14 hours) rather cheap to los angeles. Then there is American Airlines from Stansted (??) to Las vegas via new york (13h30 flight time), returning from LA direct. Have you flown with them? Or do you just use Virgin direct to Las vegas?

We use Virgin direct as we prefer not to have to make a connection, but we have flown AA to Chicago a number of times and we're flying with them from Chicago to Las Vegas in June (Virgin for the transatlantic flights) - they are a good airline we think...and one of the best things to us is that flight to Chicago has a 2-5-2 seat configuration - so loads of pairs of seats for couples travelling. Stansted is the closest airport to us and if AA added a direct to Vegas route we would be all over that!

The Northwest planes we have been on have been quite old but I've heard of others having flown more recently with good experiences.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Hi peeps

Posting from Vegas and having as ball as usual. Went to see Legends in Concert tonight and it was great as usual. Saw Jay Leno, Barry White, Madonna, the Temptations and of course Elvis.

Weather great, in the high 80's (they don't do Celsius here). Got a great room at the IP on the 2nd floor with acces via the patio door straight onto the pool deck.

Have started my trip report, but judging by the length of Day 1, it's going to be of epic proportions (and probably very boring to most people). Will be posting it on Holiday Truths and posting a link here. Not sure if I'll post it day by day or wait till I get home.

    Just seen you signature PandaPants.

From Thursday we will be staying at the IP, MGM, IP again and Palazzo.
This always intrigues me. Why would you want to settle into a hotel, unpack everything, then pack it all back up again and move to another place??
I know it's nice to visit all the hotels, and of course, it might be cheaper to stay off strip on Fri-Sat but the thought of doing all the packing and moving would drive me mad. Once we are in a hotel, we stay there for the duration. We always get a room with twin beds so OH can place all her outfits for the week out in order on the spare bed:D

If you want to ignore christmas, Vegas is the place to do it. I was there last christmas and apart from a few trees, you wouldn't have known. Its pretty cold, so bring warm clothes.

The queues for christmas dinner buffets were massive, so we went to TGI's for lunch and booked a table at Top of the World for dinner, could only get 10pm though!! There are also a lot of Oriental people there over christmas. I found a lot of them very rude, they walked into me and didn't as much as look at me, never mind apologise. One man even spilt my hot chocolate over me after banging into me, then just PUSHED me out of his way.

Rooms are pretty cheap over christmas too, we got a 750GR suite on Mandalay Bay for about $165 a night and a suite in the Venetian pretty cheap too. I phoned Mandalay and cheekily asked for a discount, they gave me $50 a night off right away!!
And don't forget sometimes you even have to make your own way home!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

    this one should be ok

    http://www.morgan111morgan.com/electrical-2/usa-to-uk-voltage-convertor-45w-stepup-transformer-57.html?zenid=76aaea47c0aab018f440d2ba9997ff7e

Converts 2 pin USA voltage to 3 pin UK voltage.
    Converts 110v to 230v.
Plug into USA mains and converts for equipment using three pin.
It says that link is a 45w converter? will that work ?
its says on my straighteners 220-240v
sorry but i just want to make sure they work....

    Memories of Vegas . . .
I was there in March for the first time. Stayed in Circus circus as we had our little boy with us. It only cost us £20 a night for the room. Not the nicest hotel, but at that price I would stay there again.

As far as i can tell, you can not convert power upwards. So, you have an electrical device that is supposed to work on 240v power, you take this item to the states where they use only 100v, so the hairdryer or like will run on reduced voltage, and presumably reduced power. You would only need a converter if you bought a 110V electrical device and wanted to plug it into 240V socket, so that too much power didn't run through the appliance.
my OH has 110V hairdryers, tongs and iron to use specificially in the states.
Think I am right, but someone please clarify.

    WHOOOH HOOOH

I havent posted since I have been back (2nd april).

I get very depressed when i get home as i miss Vegas so much, and I thought that was our last trip.

Looks like we might be going again nxt year now though.

I could write a long trip report but not sure if i will yet.

I havent read through the last ten/twenty pages so not up to speed, but a few things that peeps might be interested in.

The Palazzo room was great a $20 tip got us a strip view on the 36th floor ( a bit to high maybe), but altho room was great we had issues with room service..towels taken but not replaced, bath salts not replaced and problems sorting it...ended up with a $50 reduction, on our 3 night stay.

I wouldnt stay there again tho as I felt a little out of place (I am very much not a high roller)..I prefer the Orleans for $30 a night.

DONT SPEED!!! it cost me $300 for doing 90 in a 65 on road between Vegas and searchlight...road is straight for miles.

VIRGIN flight home was the most uncomfortable i have ever had, it was like sitting on a park bench. I have written to customer services and got a joke of a reply back. I have now written to S Ridgway (the boss), but not holding my breath. I agree with others who have posted that virgin have gone downhill...that was my 5th return flight with them in last 7 years and each time the standards have got worse.
