Branson knows exactly what his management are doing...this accessible man of the people image -is....just that.
I used to work in the travel industry and Virgin were indeed at one time a cut above and a bit different-sadly now although it's still true for Upper Class and the excellent lounges the whole experience in economy is significantly less than in past times.
I refuse to fly Virgin to Vegas now after a horrible flight-flying direct doesn't make up for the shortfall......(although I still use Virgin now and again on other routes) anyway I quite like getting off at Chicago and stretching my legs mid journey

from your experience with virgin atlantic, are flights prices likley to drop? I'm looking at an horrific :eek: 720£ in august going to las and returning from lax and would hate to receive an email promotion with a reducion in price...

Nope-very unlikely in August.
Only time I've ever got a deal for Virgin for Vegas in August was waaay ahead of time (think it was a Sun promotion) about three years ago. Not seen anything close since.

Quick Virgin miles question - anyone been able to get around the issue of having to have flown with them or a flying partner before being able to buy miles?

Isn't that the same thing? I want to buy miles to spend on a miles plus money. BUT they're saying I have to have flown with them or a partner. My question is ;- Is there a way around this?

Similar thing.......they will let you buy miles without flying, but you wont be able to spend them on miles plus money.

Wasnt the way round it to sign up for Virgin Poker or a Virgin Credit card?

I you are right - someone did report recently that they got the 5,000 miles for the Virgin Casino site and were able to use these to book M+M fares even though they had not flown before.

I don't think anyone has mentioned a way to buy miles and use those miles before you have flown. There may be a way but I can't recall seeing anyone mention it here. Maybe http://www.v-flyer.com/ might be a good resource?

Will it allow you to get a Flying Club member with miles stacked up to purchase an M+M fare for you, even though they are not flying?

Just back from Vegas today, will do a proper report when the jet lag has gone. Some quick points now though. the strip looks a complete mess at the moment, must have as many cranes a Dubai. Dinner at the Country Club grill at Wynn has to go down as the most pretentious meal I have ever had, avoid. Great rating for my craps play and comps for OH slots play at Planet Ho, the last bastion of independence on the strip, and it shows. Found a nice place for breakfast, Bouchon at the Venetian, top marks. Weather heating up nicely, take care with the breeze, OH burned on the second day, that's never happened to her before. Caesars was as good as I had wished, $50 trick at check in secured a suite with Bellagio view on the 40th floor of the Augustus tower, best value I have ever managed, $1050 for 7 nights at Caesars!!! American Airlines rocks (well business class does anyway)
