  • so the saga continues.   so we managed to download the meter readings for 30 minute intervals. thank you for that idea we did not know about this.   Below is a snapshot of one day,  remember this carried on like this for 5 days.

after the 5 days everything went back to normal,  and has remained normal since,  we are in a detached house,  we are not growing weed,  leaving the kettle running 24hours per day.     we are currently raising a new case with ombudsman with this fresh data,  as they closed the other case.    we are being threatened with bailiffs if we don't pay the remaining balance of 400 total was £1050 but they increased our DD to cover the other 700 in debit on our account.

So frustrating because clearly we didn't use that electric,  the meter was not tested after we noticed this in March due to the peak in our bills,  so how the do we prove something was wrong but now its ok.....its the principle of the thing now,  we have been message about by EON,  they have taken extra money,  they worked out they billed us correctly and credited and then took money again.............so frustrating.

That's persistent high readings - not usually how a meter fault presents.  They tend to be a single large jump.
  • Also impossible to use that much electricity on a 30 minute window.

here is a normal day in 30 minute increments,  so comapiring all our other data for 13 months they are all at this level until the time when it jumps up to the 14/15/16 every 30 minutes

Many people don't know what energy they use and just go by the readings on the meters. I had Tapo plugs on just about every device that was using electric and my daily usage was between 3.5 and 4.2 kWh per day when one day it shot up to 6.7 kWh and I hadn't done anything extra that day I learned out what had caused it when I next went to the freezer and the door was open and had being open for nearly 36 hours, the frozen food was slightly defrosted but not so much that it needed throwing out, the freezer had gone into fast freezing mode and the cupboard where the freezer was was stored I put the extra 2.5 kWh down to the freezer trying to keep the products frozen.
Someone please tell me what money is

True, but there's a big difference between a change from 3.5 kWh to 6.7kWh and a change from 17kWh to 691kWh.

Those reading of 14kWh or so per 1/2 hour equate to over 120A hour after hour. Apart from anything else something would be getting really hot if that much power was passing.

It would be useful to eliminate the possibility of a Smart meter code defect or remote activity contributing to the unusual spike in recorded usage. That would require a willingness for your supplier to investigate rather than starting debt recovery. Perhaps the energy ombudsman could persuade them to escalate it via their smart meter team as you can clearly demonstrate that the usage figures were unrealistic.
It must be possible for someone to check the event log or request the remote access history for your meter.

I know from personal experience that under certain circumstances the smart meter readings don't tally with the half-hourly data.  But unfortunately that's not the case here which makes those incredibly high readings look more real, even though they surely can't be.

I find myself wondering how much electricity it is possible for you to use?  If you turned on your oven, all the rings on your hob, your immersion heater and a couple of fan heaters would even that get you up to 14 kW?  Do you have anything else in your house that is capable of drawing a lot of power (without bursting into flames)?  Does your consumer unit have any circuits rated 32 amps or higher that you don't understand the purpose of?

You would like to think that somebody in a position at the supplier to actually think about those readings would realise they cannot possibly be true.
Take 03/01/2024 from 00:30 to 01:00, where the meter reported usage of 16.653kWh. That's an average of 138.8A at 240V for the 30 minute period. Aren't those meters rated at 100A maximum?

I have no idea how those meters work, but is it at all possible for some sort of external influence to cause them to generate false readings? Unfortunate in a way, that the problem hasn't obviously repeated itself since January, and presumably a meter test now would indicate it is working just fine.

What have you dine since January?

Raised a complaint with your supplier? Wanted 8 weeks? Escalated to the ombudsman service?

If you haven't done that then do it ASAP as it does look implausible that you have used that amkuntnon energy based on your fuse size of 80ah
