Hi all

I'm trying to keep track of spending/saving etc but finding it difficult when I use Paypal which links to a credit card (for security) and I also transfer into piggy banks on other accounts for bigger costs during the year - the budget apps I've looked at get very confused that the money is going out of one place, but may be a credit card, or may be going into a savings account but isn't long term savings etc?

It may just be me that's confused of course!

Does anyone have any advice or shall I need to teach myself Excel and formulas to set up my own?

TIA x

I tried all kinds of app, software etc. and couldn't get on with any of them. That's probably down to me being dense.
Eventually I gave up and taught myself excel which I've used ever since. Yes, I have to manually input data but I find fat fingers and knocking on a bit rules out phone screens. Excel tracks my stocks and shares ISA too.

Personal finance databases might work e.g., MS Money, AceMoney, MoneyWiz (Mac/iOS), moneymangerex.

MS Money and YNAB seem to the the ones most often mentioned.  YNAB costs though, and MS Money is getting harder to run on recent OS.

Curious as to why you feel putting Paypal in front of credit cards adds to your security, rather than just potentially just stripping you of your S75 protection.

Moneyhub is doing the job for me at the moment, although they do occasionally have issues with some of the connectors and don't have open banking for all accounts.

    This.

Also, there are media reports saying that transactions with 'Paypal' in them are making mortgage lenders twitchy, due to things like 'pay it in three' type arrangements, and the affordability of debt (similar concerns to Klarna use and payday loans).

Personally I use Emma to keep an eye on things.
