Morning everyone
I should be giving DS's bedroom a base coat of white paint at the moment but I just can't seem to get myself moving (yet). He's definitely a grown up now - his room is lemon/lime at the moment (hence the white base coat) and he wants it changing to taupe/chocolate. I *must* have it finished by Tuesday as I'm back to w**k on Wednesday so I really have to get a move on.
I'm another one who has been looking at my finances. They aren't in a bad way at all but I know I could be saving more or getting myself just a little more organised with birthday/anniversary presents, etc. So once DS's room is finished and the house has been put to rights, I will be sitting down and making some plans.
Was a bit of a silly moo yesterday. I had organised my bank accounts so that the bills account was fully funded for January. Very pleased with myself - even more so when I realised that I had forgotten to include XDH's maintenance in the sums! So that money will now go towards the roofer's bill which means that I don't have to touch my savings at all. :j :j :j PLUS I got a tax refund that I wasn't expecting at all. Every little helps as they say.
((((hugs)))) to twink and kyle
Nelski hope you come back in one piece with a couple of bargains.
Pen-Pin enjoy your break and let's hope 2008 is better for you.
dogrose My DS and DD both got lots of money for Christmas but since I opened their own savings accounts for them, they have no desire to spend even half of the money. Changed days - money used to burn a hole in DS's pockets. :rotfl: Hope you enjoy your shopping trip though.
joannasmum good luck with the animal rescue lady and hope your DD is better soon.
peony good luck with your challenge
Good luck to all those who are considering the £4000 challenge.
:hello: to all those missing in action. Hope to hear from you soon.
Right, I am off. If you see my light on, please feel free to give me a swift kick up the b*m. xx"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Morning all
What a night - hail stones the size of golf balls started rampaging about 2.30am, made all the car alarms in the street go off and sounded like they were going to cave the roof in! Cats both decided to wake up and play with something with a bell on at about 5am - bless them  Then the phone went at 7am with a wrong number - was glad to get up!
DH has just taken the car to get the brakes done - hoping it's just the pads and not the discs - fingers crossed.
Just been reading the £4000 a year challenge and DH said it can't be done - did a few sums with him and we worked out that we could actually do it - will have to see if we can be that disciplined.
Going to have a day reorganising DD1s room to get all her pressies in - have just emptied some storage boxes for her to use - just need to persuade her to part with some of the knick knacks that take up every available space!
Mt Fugi of ironing will be tackled later and I might even change the beds seeing as it's now blue skies and windy - should get them all dry quickly.
Hope you all have a great day."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

I have been reading that thread with interest, but not sure we are - or want to be - that disciplined. Definitely does make interesting reading though, and I will be reading it throughout the year to see how everyone gets on.
I have just joined the grocery challenge though for January, and we're off to do a shop shortly. Hopefully I will stick to budget next year.

Morning all. Just popping in before my guests arrive for the weekend (BIL and SIL). I'm still feeling a bit fragile and will be so glad when all the visits are over. DH has not been too well but, luckily, not as bad as I was! I think I had enough of the illness for both of us.
Anyway, PENPIN - have a fantastic time - you deserve it.
Hope everyone who has been ill is now recovering. I will join you all properly once my guests have gone and life feels a bit more 'normal', whatever that is!
See you soon and have a great weekend, everyone.

Morning all........((((((((HUGS)))))))))) if you need one.
Nive bright morning, but quite a bit cooler than yesterday. OH has just gone out for a walk.
I have a pan of tomato sauce on the hob, home made pizza tonight. I did the freezer audit last night and them priced up what I needed on my supermarket, hopefully it will not be more than £60 this month, I am trying to keep a tight reign on my shopping, it went a bit mad over Christmas, time to get back on the straight and narrow.
Have not read the thread yet, hope the poorlies are feeling abit better, thankfully we seem to have escaped 'the bug'
A better night last night OH did not cough, I am making him take cough stuff 3 times a day, keep telling him its no good taking it when he starts to cough, but you know men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our decorations are back in the attic for another 12 months..........when we moved I had to out them in smaller boxes, the hole is not so big here and I have to shove the boxes up the ladder, otherwise I have to sit in the attic and OH pushes them up.............not keen on that!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not much else to report, things are very quiet in here, more people seem to be about though the side door had crumped several times this morning. I am disorientated cannot rememebr which day of the week its supposed to be, finally decided it is Saturday, will be glad when next week is over and I can get back to normal weeks. Was trying to remember when Mr T is closed, think its just New Years Day.??????????????????? not that I intend to go before FRiday next week.
Right I am offsky, smells like the sauce is about ready, so need to turn the heat off so it finishes in the residual heat from the plate........................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Just heading to bed . The weather conditions are getting worse and should hit us tomorrow with winds reaching 35 knots. It's really blowing now. We have no big trees around our place so we should be right. I hope our roof stays on.
Talk later. ByeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Hi all
I didn't get on here to post much yesterday as we had mine & hubby's kids, partners, grandkids & dogs over for the day. It was bedlam & I loved it, we always had a housefull when the kids were younger.
I'm in love & hubby has been completely ousted from my affections, one of my son's gave me an iPod for Christmas & I love it & can't stop playing with it, it has 'Merry Christmas to the best Mum in the world' engraved on it.
The lodger has just phoned & she will be here this afternoon, which probably means about 10pm, lol. I have had such a good time without her here & must now try to keep on top of things & not get too stressed once she's back. I've decided the best way is to take a step back as the biggest problem is the level of responsibility I feel for her.
I've had a clearout in the kitchen, as I was getting my Mothers best dinner service out to use at Christmas I decided it was a waste saving it for best as she always had. So I've freecycled loads of crockery & will use her set for everyday from now on.
I'm off to have a look at the 'Living on £4000 thread'
Have a good day one & all.
Hugs Hester

Morning all (oops its afternoon!)
Was going into town this morning to have a look at Woolworths sale and the charity shop but it looked so gloomy, was very cold and windy (so OH said when he came back from getting the newspaper) so I decided against it (least I won't be spending any money today).
Tried to book accomodation from Travelodge site -offering £9 a night rooms for July August time providing you book before Jan 31st. Well, apparently this offer isn't on in the area I want to go to so that little mission failed.
Keep telling myself to get on with de-cluttering...............managed to thin out a file of paperwork...........half of which I didn't need any more.......re-filed another lot. Now I've three more of those 'open' files that sit on my cupboard..............really MUST do them !!! Haven't a clue what's stuffed in them ! Then I'll start on the cupboard drawers.....................oh lor, wearing myself out thinking about it.............still got to be done.
Hope you all have a good day:jMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
