Saturday 29th December 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 29th December 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone,

Sorry for starting the thread so early, but I can’t sleep. :(

It’s a week or two since I last posted on the daily as everyone’s home and I haven’t had a minute to myself, but I’ve been trying to read and keep up with everything that’s going on...

Kyle and Twink, I was very sorry to hear about your aunt…Christmas is a dreadful time to lose a family member but I think you’ve done the right thing by not talking to ds about the finer details.
Aussie, I hope you escaped the cyclone without any damage.
Penny-Pincher, I’ve read that you were about to go into hospital a couple of times but thankfully you weren’t ill enough to be admitted and are well enough to go on holiday today….I hope you have a lovely time!
Catowen, I missed your birthday…I hope you had a great day!
Special (((hugs))) to all of you who have been unwell or who have had sick children over the past week.

We had a lovely Christmas…quiet, with only close family and friends around and it was just what I needed to recharge my batteries after all the rushing about in December. Santa did his stuff and all three were delighted with their presents.

Yesterday we re-arranged the living room and did some decluttering and today the plan was to start on our bedroom…just one small problem…I’m not in the mood for any more upheaval. I just want to have a relaxing day…so I’ve taken an executive decision to have a long soak in the bath, afterwards I’m going to read one of my books and munch on some chocolate. I might manage to squeeze a glass of wine in later too. We’re all off work/school for another nine days so there’s plenty of time to declutter…. ;) :D

Tea tonight will be turkey and ham egg fried rice. I know it sounds horrible but it isn’t and it’s quite a good way of using up the leftovers yet doesn’t taste remotely Christmassy.

I hope you all have a good weekend.

Hi Pink, yellowmonkey & all to follow,

Well it's very very windy here atm. No rain though. I've been helping DH build shelves in our inbuilt. I got all the boxes etc I had stored in the roof area and they are all over the bedroom floor. We've run out of steam now. DH watching a dvd  and I can't be bothered. :p So one big mess.

Off to make tea shortly. Zucchinni slice. Another lot have grown. :D Round, yellow ones this time. YS bought me some Irish chocolates. Has anyone heard of them. The name is Lily O'Briens dessert chocolates. They look  I haven't opened them yet. I'm eating all DH's first. ;)

Well off to make a cuppa. I hope the ones feeling sick yesterday are much better today. Byeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • Morning all

Just a very quick post as off to work in a mo. Last shift and then not in until Thursday. I am so tired, looking forward to another cup of tea.

DS off to pantomime later for friends birthday, so I will try and catch some sleep when I get back, don't have to pick him up until 4ish.

Was thinking about my finances. They really were grim last year at this time. Thanks to this site they are looking better but I'm not out of the woods yet. Wish OH could adopt the same attitude and stop spending money on yet more clothes. He already has 60 shirts!!!!

Have a good day and hugs to those who need it :A xxxxx

BusyGirl- Glad the cataloge codes helped you grab a bargin! Iv PM you the site where i get them all from, hope it helps in future purchases. If any one else want the site let me know as im not sure if im allowed to post it on the thread??

Well i spent last night having a really good look around the boards, have joined the Jan Grocery Challange, and after reading the live off £4000 a year thread, iv sat down and worked out our yearly outgoings, something iv not really done before only monthly, and iv now set me and dh a personal challange of banking £3500 before then end of next year, which looking at the figures should be more than easily done, myself and dh couldnt believe what amount of money we should have left!! Like he said where does all that `spare` money go??
Well this year i intend to find out!!!! LOL

10p listing day today on Ebay if anyones forgot, got loads of stuff to get on, although iv listed 18 items already including one of the kids old ds consoles and iv got £60 worth of bids already and they have only been listed since yesterday!!! My ebay sale money is to be our spending money for on hoilday after paying for new tyres for the car!!
Sorry for going on about money, im just really obsesed at the moment about saving as much as possible and get rid of that debt!!!!!

Have a good day everyone, got lots of washing to get through and dd at party later, ds3 is alot better although he did alot of sleepwalking last night but he always does when he is ill!!
Kyle/Twink special hugs to you and yours (((()))) Hope the kids are feeling better today.

    ((((Twink))) & ((((Kyle))))

Pink - I had turkey fried rice - couldnt have any ham as it had all been eaten.

DLB - Thanks for mentioning Littlwoods yesterday- I have ordered a couple of pairs of jeans.

Didnt get much done yesterday as planned (recurring theme for 2007 - 2008 will be different!) Bought a new Wii game from whs but when got home it wasnt working so had to go back to town to take it back - no more stock in so got a refund. Have now ordered a couple of games from Play, hope they arrive soon.

Today - normal stuff really only difference is DS is at his nans so there will be no arguements and DD should occupy herself so will be able to really get on.

So off to get dressed in a min, pop down the local shops then will sort out dinner - havent done a meal plan yet.

Quick surf whilst I finish my tea.

Have a great day all and PP - have a fantastic break - Happy New Year.

    Hello All,

I do hope you don't all mind me joining you again, it's been far too long since I last posted on Old Style :o .

Last night I went to bed early and reread the 'Thrifty Ways ...' book so I now feel inspired, so later on today I am going to go through my cupboards/recipe books and set up a menu plan for January. Please wish me luck!

dlb, I know what you mean about what happens to all the 'spare money'? I have often thought this too, but I have always been too disorganised with my paperwork to track it, but in 2008 it is going to be different. I may be losing my job in the New Year so it has made me reconsider our lifestyle.

twink & kyle, I am sorry to hear about your Aunt/Great Aunt. Also, to all of you who have been unwell or had sick children I do hope everyone is on the mend now.

pink-winged, turkey and ham egg fried rice sounds delicious to me. Egg fried rice is one of my weaknesses.

Today, I am having the last gathering for christmas at our place (so have to go quickly to tidy up, I always leave everything to the last minute  ) and then after that I think I will start tidying up the christmas decs before I go back to work on Weds.

Take care all & I look forward to getting to know everyone again.

    Morning all.

    It's cold here today.

Both WM and BM are on and I have tandoori chicken marinating in the SC, so dinner's sorted for later.

We've been stuck in doors for a couple of days, so are hoping to venture in to town today. I need to pick up a few things from poundland.

There's also a pile of ironing that needs to be done at some point too.

Enjoy your holiday Pen-Pin. A happy New Year to you too.

I've read through the £4000 a year thread too, dlb. It certainly made for interesting reading.

:grouphug:HUGS :grouphug: to all who need or want one, especially those who are poorly or have poorly little ones.

Going to have a :coffee: before waking DDs.

    Hi everyone!
Hugs to those who need them.
Haven't got a fantastically exciting day planned as the house needs attention. Am off to Mr T in a mo to stock up on milk etc but hopefully shouldn't be too big a one. Have been a good Oldstyler and menu planned around what's in the freezer and store cupboard.
Need to strip the small person's bed, list some of the 100 books he's declutter and scrub out the cat's litter tray. However, right now my cross stitch and an extended stay on here looks much more tempting:D
    Have a good day folks!
