I don't think life after mortgage will be too different...our monthly payments are only 475 (actually, our monthly payments are £41! But I OP to keep it at what it used to be), and we will be intending to buy a slightly bigger house in 3 years or so, so i will be just redirecting the 475 to a limited access savings account!

Bit boring! But I dont think i'll lose the frugality!

    What is an EF?

Mortgage when saw the MSE light 💡: £85,000 (end date 2045)
    2019: £65,638
💰 2024 Increased mortgage for house move:  £112,000 (end date 2054)
    Current end date: May 2026

That sounds like a good plan @HelenaPinky 😊.

    Morning everyone ,

Today will not be a NSD l have a mtg so need to catch the train. I thought I'd be frugal and catch the slightly later train to save £1.70 on the fare. This has backfired because now the train is delayed 🙄. Ive called ahead to inform them of the situation.

I have a free cafe nerro coffee to claim while I'm out. I should be back home for lunch I suppose £3.80 isnt a huge amount 😂

you never loose the frugality even after MF, it’s money hard earned so better in your pocket. because you OP so much you will really notice the difference.

I had about a £3000 EF when I was last MF but my mortgage was about £650 and we could afford to just about get by on one salary. If your mortgage interest is low it makes a difference to how much you want to keep in savings too. So much to think about but ultimately it’s what you feel comfortable with 😊

Unfortunately the USA thing is going to start impacting us soon I’m sure so our frugality will need to be working overtime 😬

    Afternoon all,

I was up early again, originally heading to the gym but after a slight back twinge yesterday l decided to give it a miss and have another day on ibuprofen as a precaution. Hopefully, i'll go tomorrow instead.

After reading other MSE comments and the discovery of the bonus pot this week I've decided to lower my EF expectations to £5000. Although l am cautious, the likelihood of all four of us simultaneously losing our jobs living us with zero income is l admit …unlikely.

Besides, as soon as the mortgage is gone we will be focusing on building up savings anyway😊

Still not sure of our "end date" but l do know its closer than it was before.

We are in £246 in credit with our energy supplier, l was going to request a partial refund, but given the uncertainty around energy. I think l might leave it where it is for now.

I think I'd still request the refund. It may as well be sitting in your account earning interest rather than theirs. You can always use it to make a one-off payment to them if it's needed in the future?

    Morning All,

Although after been awake since 4.39am😴 it feels more like the afternoon, l did make it to the gym this morning so at least it feels a bit productive.

It's been a busy few days in the CK household.

Thanks for the suggestion @South_coast l emailed my energy provider about a refund they are currently producing an up to date bill, once that's done l can request a partial or full refund 😊

A couple of personal spends to declare over the weekend, £2.10 for some new gym leggings from the charity shop, £7 for a small bottle of brandy, just fancied a dash in a hot chocolate and £13 on a bag of protein powder should last a few months..

We also booked a camping trip ⛺ for the summer £192 total cost. I paid £96 deposit from the holiday pot. Glad we have something to look forward to.

Our regular £100 payment has been made off the mortgage new balance £17,400.

A couple of jobs l need to look at this week.

    • Need to get listing on vinted to try and raise a few ££
    • Sort out our home insurance, the renewal quote has arrived and is less than last year but compulsory excesses have increased +£250. Need to call up and discuss / negotiate
    • Look for ideas for the Easter holidays. I've messaged a few mom's about play dates but i'd like to make a dry/rainy day list l can utilise on this and future school holidays.

Does your local library have activities for kids in the holidays?

My local library has been shut down 🙄 but l will enquire about the next closest.

My energy company emailed me back and l have requested £120 refund. Also work colleague just signed up with them so possible £50 credit to be given for the referral 😊.
