Probably not, but having both been made redundant in the past and given Mr Ck is self employed l feel more comfortable with a bigger safety blanket. £10k is basically 6 months total bills etc.

Perhaps if l include the £2.5k EF we have for the rental we would only need to get to £7.5k in the EF.

    Welcome, thanks for popping by.

The original June date was based on been mortgage neutral, leaving a 6k balance. Now we have decided to completely pay off the mortgage, so l don't have a set in stone end date. Just the sooner the better 😂.

Atm, November seems the most likely outcome. It would be great to have no mortgage for December.

What about you still on track for May? (I noticed your signature)

I woke early today, so nice to see the brighter mornings and evening, spring is on its way 🌷🌼.

I went to the gym, l went to the one on holiday but it wasn't the same.

After having a shuffle around of interest received, a small amount left from the food shop, and adding a little from personal spends (l like round numbers) £50 has been added to the EF. Aiming to add another £50 by the end of March.

    Other MSE things done today,

I requested my £20 from top cash back and cooked some jacket potatoes in the oven while dinner was cooking ready for my lunch tomorrow.

Also deskinned and deboned 4kg of chicken thighs, its tedious but moneysaving works out to half price vs buying boneless thigh its separated into portions in the freezer.

I spent a few hours researching campsites, think I've narrowed it down to two for Mr Ck to look at.

I had a look at my energy tariff to see if l could be saving money. Turns out l could make about a £10 saving a month, however its with unknown or poorly rated energy providers😕. I'll have a think about it.

Also had to completed a form from my mortgage company explaining how l plan on paying it off in 5 years time that was easy 😅

I'm still on track for May...our tracker finishes then so it's perfect timing. We're on the home straight now...it's minimal figures and I could pay it off from savings but the interest is not too different in savings and mortgage I'm enjoying the slow crawl to the finish line (I feel like I'll weirdly miss the whole thing as its been such a focus for so many years!)

That's amazing, congratulations. What do you suppose life after the mortgage will look like? Any plans?

I know what you mean about missing the struggle 😂 I worry, we'll just flitter the money away each month.

    Evening all,

    I come bearing exciting news.

We have a small savings account, its actually some kind of investment product that ive had for over 30 years. We withdrew most of the funds to pay a lump sum of the mortgage. Its quite fiddly to get to the money (form filling, declarations to HMRC etc) so I don't pay much attention. But a MSE member did advise me to hold onto it.

Today l thought I'd have a look at the balance ....its increased by £2405 in 6 months, ive logged on 3 times to check 🤣. Of course investments can go down as well as up so l wont count my chickens just yet. But it has made me think that we could get away with a lower EF if this money stays.

I checked again this morning and its gone up another £1 😂i'm taking this as a good sign.

This morning began bright and early at 5.20am it was my first pre work gym session since holiday. I cant tell you how much l struggled to get up, let alone exercise🙄 . l really want to re establish my routine.

Today l had the first child benefit payment of the month £173.20 l sent £170 to the "kids pot" and rounded up the balance to send £5 to the EF.

Then this afternoon my £20 cash back was paid into my account, also sent to the EF which now stands at £4240 😊

I brought leftovers for lunch so today will be another NSD.
