3% paid monthly on the 8th day. does the 1.55% bonus get added as one payment after 12 months?

Well as that bonus is only paid if the account is still open after 12 months - then Yes, I'd imagine that's when it will be paid

they can be opened as a maturity option on an existing savings account when it matures to a 1% savings account (or a day or two later), or manually you can upgrade a Simple Saver to a SDS, a SDS to a SS, or upgrade the same account type to the latest issue… personally, i've only ever opened one of each SDS issue directly - there have been posts previous that their system doesn't allow multiple directly opened SDS accounts of the same issue, but as I have never tried it, I don't know if it is still true.
my first Issue 5 is due to mature in 6 weeks time, and I will be upgrading it to another Issue 5 after maturity (assuming issue still available).

@janusd An option for you if you didn’t want to wait to upgrade, I had a SDS maturing in a few weeks but rather then waiting to upgrade once matured (in case it was no longer available at 5%) I upgraded it to a SS and immediately upgraded again back to a SDS.

Secure Trust Access Account (Issue 22) (NLA) dropping from 3.95% to 3.50% AER on 6th March - I assume other NLA issues will also drop - the current Issue 26 is 3.50% too.
2 -
Only 3 previous issues currently pay above 3.50%. Issues 22, 23 & 25 (all @ 3.95%)
Certainly Issue 23 is similarly affected. Not sure about Issue 25, but I would presume so too.
No indication (yet) of any reduction in rates of any of the lower paying issues
