I don't wish to blow my own trumpet, but I know a lot about nutrition and fitness. Whoops, I just blew my trumpet... sorry.
I have a few tips for you guys and girls:
1) Losing weight always starts in the kitchen. You can do 8 hours exercise a day, but if you don't eat correctly it will all be pretty pointless.
2) DON'T stop eating. Some people seem to think that going on a cabbage diet will get them to lose weight, maybe it will but it is in no way healthy, and you can achieve the same results by eating normally but well. One of the reasons I hate the word "diet" is because it sounds like you are giving up loads of good things and eating strictly. That is not how it should be.
3) DON'T weigh yourself. Your actual weight bears little bearing on your body fat. It's far better to either measure yourself, or to judge fat loss by looks. Also, if you begin doing more exercise you can in fact GAIN weight. This doesn't mean you are more fat, you may have infact lost weight, but muscle does weigh more, plus with more water and things it can be deceiving.
4) Drink lots of water. Water helps to feed your muscles and is essential to your body, and helps to lose weight as well.
5) Don't go MAD with your new routine and diet, start slowly. If you do go over the top it will be harder to keep it up. Just try to do a bit more exercise per week, and clean up your food intake.
6) If you are feeling hungry, then eat if you want to. There is no point starving yourself, just make sure you eat some of the good food listed below.
Good Food
Wholemeal Bread/Rice/Pasta/Spaghetti. Avoid white bread if possible.
Chicken/Turkey
Tuna
Nuts such as cashew. These are high in fat, but it is a "good fat", like what you get in fish. Eat about 50g a day (small handful).
Fruit (bananas, apples, pears, berries are excellent). Oranges aren't that great as they are quite high in sugar/glucose.
Porridge, excellent to start the day off with
Potatoes/Brown rice - good carbohydrates
Fish such as mackeral or even cod. Always a good food source.
Eggs
Milk is really good, great if you are feeling hungry.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!Amo L'Italia0 -
Redreabbit -I am interested in the fact that you say milk is good,I love milk and prefer the full fat milk for drinking and on cereal -skimmed for tea .All 'diets' say skimmed or semi but I would love to drink full fat milk regularly and with a clear conscience - so can I

Hi Snaggles
I've not been around much - post-baby shock I suppose - no one can prepare you, but I expect you know that
It's been a bloody hard 9 weeks since Elliot was born but I *think* we are getting over the shellshocked stage - the fog is clearing, so to speak...
Your old sig made me cry you know... you're very inspirational, Snaggles. Now, pass the Pringles0 -
Right, I've decided I must must must start exersizing (I cant spell it, let alone do it :rotfl: )
Anyone know where / how I should start? Current fitness level is nil I think
I asked DH for advice and he just fell about laughing, so hopefully you lot will be a bit more constructive !!Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Spud the weightloss in your sig is amazing - was that all diet/no exercise?
Do you walk much? There's no better starting point... can't recommend running strongly enough, I love love love it and miss it and can't wait to be able to go again.
All you need is proper running shoes and something reflective, and your own two feet!0 -

I think my old sig will be back, because I liked it toothanks! Just wanted to scare myself into action with the debt busting, and also Ryan's diagnosis *should* be happening in mid-January, so I might change it back then, providing it is confirmed. Not sure about inspirational though - I am just blindly stumbling through it all trying to work out the right things to do. But it's lovely of you to say that. xxx
