  • I agree that this is not a friend and that distancing yourself is a good idea. However, despite the derision, you were prompted to look at your choices. Well done on confirming these were right for you.
Thankyou, just wish I hadn't let it upset me as much as it has and i certainly shouldn't have been thinking my choices are wrong. She is not a friend.
  • Gosh true friends just accept that’s what you like and are happy for you! My bestie loves camping, I’d rather pull my own teeth out one by one but I’m always happy when she’s going away having a holiday.

I adore celery soup, tis one of my favs !
I also dislike camping and couldn't think of anything worse than trailing down a field in the middle of the night to find a toilet, but I have friends that love camping and they have amazing adventures as a family and do really cool things such as ghyll scrambling and paddle boarding.

  • That’s not a friend. Sounds like she’s jealous of you to be honest.
That's what DD has said, she also said she thinks she is unhappy and so makes fun of people who are happy within themselves and I have to say I agree.

I have 'friends' like this...my God this just autocorrected to feinds 🤣🤣 nuff said eh. And I've had to distance myself from them as they make me feel so down about myself and I then question everything going on in my life and feel rubbish..someone pointed out to me that it was a form of passive aggressive jealousy. I think they were right. Cut them off and move on id rather be an eco hippy than a shopping addict (been there done that hence my username 🤣🤣🤣🤣).

That is definitely not a friend. True friends accept that we can have different likes and aspirations and are supportive of each others choices.  I love Scotland and it's definitely not boring! And there's nothing wrong with being an eco hippy, we need more of them!

Well done for stepping back, no one needs 'friends' that make them feel bad.

    Great bunch of freebies!
Thanks Jwil, i'm going to avoid her in the future. There is no need for us to get together just because our children once played together. I also love Scotland especially all the castles, I'm a proper castles geek  :D
Regarding the eco hippy comment, it's just not how I see myself as when i think of eco hippy I think of swampy sat in his tree protesting. Yes i'm thrifty, buy 2nd hand mainly because I loath over consumption and prefer a more minimalist life, I like to make memories rather than have things. I love to cook and garden but these are my hobbies and give me a quiet place to think. I also prefer a long walk with my dogs rather than trailing through a shopping centre. I also do things that are not classed as eco, I fly and I eat meat. I just felt it was her way to get a dig in about my lifestyle.
Ah see to me, the likes of swampy etc are activists.  I see an eco hippy as exactly what you describe - someone who cares about the environment and takes steps to reduce their impact, however that may be - choosing their own path rather than following the consumerist bombardment that we are all subjected to.  There's often a perception that we have to go full 'hair shirt' to make a difference, but the reality is, lots of people making small changes to their lifestyles can add up to massive reductions in impact.  I've been called an eco hippy before and to me it's a badge of honour :D

Thanks for this Jwil, you are absolutely right and i should wear it like a badge of honour.
  • Morning and the weather is bright and sunny, first load of washing has been hung out and i have popped another load on to wash.

Yesterday i popped into small town as DH was having his hair cut and i needed to pick up a parcel from the lockers as i bought some jeans off v1nted, they are exactly the same as a pair that I already own that fit me well so thought i would get a 2nd pair, paid £10 for them and they are immaculate, would have cost me £35 from N£XT, i might keep an eye out for a 3rd pair as i hate buying jeans and once i find a pair that fit I wear them to death.
I made strawberry jam in the afternoon and got 5 jars worth and a bit extra, strawberries have been this years crop, i froze any very small or wonky looking ones until i had enough to make jam. I then decided to make some maids of honour tarts, using some pastry that was left over from last weeks quiche that I froze, used the jam i had just made that was extra and I just had to make up a batch of vanilla sponge, Altogether made 20 tarts and had some left over cake mixture so made 10 plain fairy cakes that i just topped with water icing and sprinkles, so thats this weeks sweet treats all done. Stewed up 3 stalks of rhubarb from the garden, the other stalks were small so i have left them as it's really too late in the season to be picking but it's a well established plant so should be ok, i will leave it now to do it's thing over winter.
Last night I made a chicken massaman curry which was heavily bulked out with PP squash and green beans from the garden. Fed 4 of us with rice and prawn crackers and another 2 portions have gone to the freezer for an easy meal for DH and I.
Roast chicken for tonights tea, with leeks and spuds out of the garden.

Today is housework day, going to give bathroom a deep clean whilst no one is home and sort out my bedroom as we seem to have ended up with piles of clutter.
  • Morning, up early and been busy in the garden before it gets too hot.

This mornings garden haul, there is also potatoes and leeks ready. Lovely to know we wouldn't starve and blessed to be able to produce our own food.

Wow that is an Impressive haul! My strawberries were rubbish this year and my apples all infested with something so a bit jealous with your lovely ones!

  • Thanks DFW, it's been hit or miss, carrots have been rubbish for me as I think i've planted them in the wrong place where there hardly any sun and y broccoli hasn't done very well either, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that i might get a few stalks but we will see.
