January 2008 Grocery Challenge

Hi all, can I join in please. I've been lurking for a few months and thought I'd be in it for the last quarter of this year, but life intervened a bit during Nov and Dec (exams, had to have a cat put down) so it all went a bit to pot.
But 2008 will be a bit more organised - a bit of goal setting with jobs around the house, worklife, weight & fitness etc and more of a handle on spending ... and saving of course. So my Dairy Diary that was a Chrissy pressie is primed for noting down all the spending, meal plans, competitions... more of a log book than a diary.
There's a forum/challenge for practically everything mentioned so I've got to be careful to acturally DO and not just read about everyone else doing it!
I'm going to say £150 1st - 31st. Dec's grocery spend was off the planet, well it could've been worse (mum helped us out as we did the big family dinner), so I'm conveniently ignoring it! We are 2 of us, a (remaining, sob!) cat and 2 chickens (they don't cost much though). The freezer is still pretty full so there's no excuse really.
Anyway, I'm getting boring now, so just to say I hope everyone had a lovely, warm Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy, Moneysaving New Year.
PS -what's lil-me's totals list please.0 -
Hi everyone
I'd like to join this month please.
I'm aiming for £50 per week for groceries, pet food and cleaning stuff etc
Its going to be a tight month because we've a lot to pay out this month. Luckily we've a lot of stuff left in the cupboards so I'm going to try and spend as little as possible and make what we've got last.
Its to feed 2 adults full time, 1 adult 3 days a week and 1 adults for approx 10 days till he goes back to uni and a cat.
I didn't do last month so I'll start from now if thats OK
Good luck everyone

I've often looked at these threads but, never joined in, this month i need to put aside that little extre so i plan to spend only £20 per week for 2 adults and 2 children this shouldn't be too hard as we have fairly full fridge, frezzer and cupboards after christmas. Here goes........0

Count me in please.
this will be my first time in the challenge. I am going to set my target at £120 for food plus £30 for toiletries, nappies, cleaning products etc (all other non-food that comes from the supermarket). So call it £150 all inc but I will be adding the food and non-food stuff separately.
We are a family of four - 2 adults and 2 littluns (and 2 cats). a couple of years (when we only had 3 mouths to feed) ago I tried working out how much we were spending on groceries and it was about £120 per month with trying to keep everything reasonably cheap (i.e. a few chuckout counter and 'value' products but not limiting the quanitity of food.)
Anyway my target is a bit of a guess for my first month and I am starting with a rammed full freezer, and a fuller than normal fridge so hopefully that will get me off to a good start.0 -
Just posting to see if my new sig comes up.
Peony40 - hope you don't mind I took my inspiration from yours!:D
I'm also thinking £150 is a bit generous considering what some of you are aiming for. Will have a think on that one.

Can I join in too please?
Haven't done this before but know my grocery bills are way too high
Going to try for £150 a week for January hoping to decrease this to £100 over next few months
This is for 2 adults, 2 kids (who eat like adults) 1 vegetarian and 1 "fairy" eater!
I aim to get back to cooking everything from scratch, baking all bread, baking for lunch boxes etc
I also need to do the store cupboard challenge at the same time so that should helpHoping to stick to the challenge this year!!

Hi, I had to change my signature as it was reading January 2007 Grocery Challenge, I didn't realise that it had been that long I had been away! Anyway, here's to a good January 2008 Grocery Challenge for us all.
To be honest, I don't know whether £25/week is doable for us, but I'll see. As DH is starting a diet in the New Year at least I won't have cider and chipsticks to fund
January 2025 Grocery Challenge: £220.00/£59.47

Hi, will try again for Jan, originally had a go in Nov, made a total haims of it, and didn't think I should depress myself in December, BUT, New Year, new start, will try to stick to €120 a week for the five of us, from 1st Jan to 1st Feb, this is to include groceries, cleaning stuff, toiletries, dog food, window washers, milk and coal men (phewwww). Don't think I'll come any way close for the first few months, but hopefully will be getting there in time.Credit card €7892.36/€ 0
Catalogues €767.52/€ 0
hospital costs €550
wtshtf fund 0/ €2000
#13 1% challenge - 00 -
omg:eek: just read peeps posts and its a 5 week month ooooo flip:eek:
well i am still going to try and stick to the £450... for the month ( to include electric..coal... petrol, and other bits and peices)
oh also forgot this is to include crickets and hoppers for my geckos..
the more i am thinking about this .....and actually realising how much things are....it is going to be a shock to hte system but as i sais in the earlier post.... in reality we only have £120. left for all the above and food anyway, otherwise we are spending more than what we got coming in.....
i will also try and use money off coupons if i can find any to try an ease the pressure...Work to live= not live to work0 -
