£12 million - I drive past it on my way to work (won't give the location away - NOT London - but work is in west London) and I would not buy it - it's stunning, but not for me!

In the landing photo below, I can peek through those first floor windows from my car - £12 million to live on a rather busy commuter road is a bit too much compromise.

It is also very much a family house and as a single person, it'd be a bit much! But if I had a family (and the money), life in this area would be absolutely ideal. Quintessential southern England rich life.

What is the glass thing on the front of the house?

A glass case of architectural emotion, I'm guessing :D

Just fyi, people can find the listing using Google lens with your photos.
That's alright, it's not my intention to hide as it's not my home. Anyone who wants to spend time finding random house listings is very welcome lol

Living in central London 5 miles covers all the centre and so most expensive on Right Move is £45m

Looking at a few agents that dont list on Right Move though, $221m for a 5 bed flat

    https://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/detail/180-l-691-r9helm/knightsbridge-london-en

I suppose I could rough it but would want to make a few changes
The first thing I want to know is the (very likely atrociously high) service charge - even at £175million, you're not immune from leasehold issues! #LeaseholdReformNow

It is very nice, I must add!

According to the Evening Standard the service charge is £161,000 per year but includes use of some of the facilities of the Mandarine Oriental hotel next door. So could be worse @annetheman and maybe is given this is one of the penthouses whereas the ES article was about a non-penthouse.

This is our most expensive within five miles house. As it happens, I pass close by this house fairly often...And yes, I'd love to buy it if I only had the money :)

This was once the most expensive house ever put up for sale in the UK, at £70Million in 2005.

Updown Court is entered by a £2 million (US$3 million) heated marble driveway.[1] It has 103 rooms, 24 of which are bedrooms, each with its own marble en-suite bathroom. Among other features, it has a fully automated two-lane bowling alley, five swimming pools including an Infinity pool, a squash court, a floodlit tennis court, a wine cellar with a capacity for 3,000 bottles and a panic room. There are 5 acres (2.0 ha) of more than 30 different types of imported Italian marble, expansive terraces, and a customizable cinema with a 50-seat capacity. It also features an underground garage, with granite flooring, that has enough room for eight cars or limousines. There is also a sauna, and a "secret" passageway off of the property.[28] Moreover, there is also a gymnasium, an indoor football pitch, and an outdoor equestrian yard with stables.

However it would not sell, and the owners and mortgage company went bankrupt in the GFC, and it was repossessed and eventually sold for 'only' half the original asking price.

I may 'win' the cheapest one. I'm not even sure it is within 5 miles - more or less just on that boundary.  £875k for an 8 bedroom period house with 2 acres. I've no interest - far too much to look after. I think I'd need a direct debit for my roofer.

Within a 10 min walk of me, there are half a dozen £1m+, but there are also 15 < £1m houses with swimming pools, even tho' 10 mins walk from the seaside and a lake. (And it is not a 'posh' area)

£22m. I can't tell you what it looks like, because there's this single picture on Rightmove

All I know is that it's a "Country Estate In the New Forest" and it's definitely not where the map dot is - that's the old airfield and there's no 11 bedroom house there.

Next nearest is on the Isle of Wight. £17m with 1500 acres. Blimey, that must be half the island :D

A paltry £2m for a five bed, four  bathroom house. No, I wouldn't want to buy it - it's on a fairly busy road, not much garden, and although the kitchen is brand-new and hand-built, by Charles Yorke with Miele, Gaggenau and Liebherr appliances, there's far too much marble for me!
