£5 note has disappeared from cash machines

why don't you just do two transactions withdraw £40 then £10. No £50 note then.subjecttocontract said:My local Tesco Supermarket cash machine only ever dishes out £50 notes. I complained and they couldnt understand why I had a problem. These are about as useful to me as a chocolate teapot. As a result I've stopped using the cash machine. Lots of others provide £5 & £10 notes.YNWA

So you can only withdraw cash in multiples of £50?subjecttocontract said:My local Tesco Supermarket cash machine only ever dishes out £50 notes.
I've never seen that, and I've never had a £50 note from a cash machine either - even when taking out several hundreds of pounds.0 -
Don't know whether it is a trial or not but I have have recently seen £50 notes from Tesco ATMs - I have never seen these before in my area - although I have heard about it for years in LondonBarkin said:

I've never seen that, and I've never had a £50 note from a cash machine either - even when taking out several hundreds of pounds. These ATMs will issue a £50 but only if you ask for over £100. Even then you will get only one £50.
in the rare occasions you do request £50 and get a £50 that’s solely down to an error with the £10 notes.
But yes, there will be far more £50 dispensing ATMs in the UK in the coming years to meet customer demand, the appetite of the Bank of England, reduce costs and recognise that £50 doesn’t get you much these days.3 -
It does seem in the UK we have an aversion to using high value notes. Never in my life have I used a £50 note, but on brief trips abroad I've quite often used much higher value notes eg USD/EUR 100's. Most cashpoints in the Eurozone will issue EUR50's as their main note and have done since the Euro was introduced. In Germany quite often 100's.theATMguru said:

Was behind someone in a petrol station in Belgium who paying with a 1000 EUR note, didn't seem to phase the staff!0 -

More likely a 500€ note, there's no 1000 bill. I've never noticed any hesitation in having a 500 accepted, although I wouldn't use one to buy a coffee..
