So 5k paye expense tax code s1867l
Should be s2476l
Normal choice is s1257l1 -

£5000 expenses would almost certainly be another reason for additional HMRC scrutiny- where is S2476L coming from?Gvent# said:I have no idea can't remember seeing it before usually all your earnings go in to your tax code but only my paye expenses did

The 6k of self employed expenses
+ 5k of paye expenses would take your paye tax free allowance to s2350l
For the following year any expenses claimed in the following year if you wouldn't be able to claim a refund as its earned through your tax code
5k of paye expenses is 10k miles and some tools
You don't get 5k you get 20% back from your expenses you declare
That then becomes a tax free allowance for the following year.

You could always log in to your account, choose PAYE, and find out what the change was!Archie492 said:I've just received and email to say I've got a tax code change for some PAYE work. It could signal my refund should pay out soon.0 -
Self employed expenses would never be included in a tax code though.Gvent# said:The 6k of self employed expenses

Yes - I am just baffled by that response. As you say - only expenses relating to employment can be included in a PAYE code.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:

Normal choice is s1257lHow it ‘becomes a tax free allowance for the following year’ is also just beyond anything that I have come across.0
