i carry my drivers licence with me, incase i'm ever pulled over by the police, or i need it in the bank to make a large withdrawal, or to buy alcohol or fags!
i worked bloody hard to get that little plastic card, so i keep it in my purse
Mine is in a drawer somewhere - only ever dig it out when I am on holidayWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
My sister was caught out by the alcohol to under 18 rule in Asda just before Christmas. Her daughter is 16 and was going to buy a bottle of wine for her friend for Christmas (who is 18). My sister's full trolley of booze had started to be put through the till when she turned to my neice and said 'You'll have to put that on the belt with mine because they won't serve you'... The till op, stopped putting it all through and told her that she cannot sell any of the booze as she was going to be supplying a minor. After an argument with the checkout supervisor, she left empty handed!!
It made my sister worse when both my mother and myself agreed with Asda!
Yep, agreed. It is an offence to supply alcohol to a person under 18, so as you implied they are just enforcing what is technically correct. I bet they get 100 people a day trying to genuinely supply alcohol to minors, so they just have a blanket rule for all.Amo L'Italia0 -
What do people use for ID anyway?
I don't carry anything that proves my age so if I was asked for ID then I guess it would be no sale.

Its not an idiotic rule, its a necessary rule needed to curb underage drinking,
Do you really think underage teenagers are stupid enough to go to the till when someone is trying to buy them alcohol?
It's not really the point though. If I am 18 and have valid ID then there should be no problem with buying alcohol as I am not breaking any laws.
We already have laws against people supplying minors with alcohol - how about enforcing them instead of creating stupid rules which are only going to catch out people who don't have ID for every member of their party.0 -
Don't be so ridiculous - of course that's not the case.
Customer assistants DO generally have common sense, by the way. It infuriates me when people expect them to be brainless; it's generally the uneducated who have this view of shop workers anyway!
I'm 27. My girlfriend looks easily as old. They would not sell us a bottle of Champagne as I didn't have my wallet with me.
Guess the common sense approach is to suspect her of being a cradle snatcher?
And I appreciated how you bemoan people stereotyping others by doing exactly the same. Good work.0 -

If there is a group of young people and one is buying alcohol we have to see everyone ID. If just one of them doesnt have it them we have to refuse the sale.
If someone is refused a sale of alcohol it is recorded, so that if they did come back in and went onto a different till there is proof that the original till operator refused it.
If there is a someone who is refused because of no ID and someone in the group with ID comes back in we have to tell the supervisor. (but to be honest it takes the supervisor 10mins to see your light flashing and by then the customer has gone to another till)
If I was to be caught selling alcohol to someone under-age or to someone buying it for someone underage I would get an £80 fine, the store licence holder (usally the GM) would get a fine of up to £1,500(i think), could have his licene took off him and I would most probally loose my job.
I can understand that it is quite fustrating when you are refused (it happened to me the other day when i didnt have ID) but it not worth my job selling it to you. Even if i do have to put up with a load of abuse from customers and in one instance being told 'if you don't f-ing sell it me im gonna f-ing smack ya'
I don't really blame the sales assistants. As you say, its not you who makes the rules. It just seems to be yet another stupid rule which doesn't really achieve anything.0 -
