Good grief, it reminds me of the bank in Mary Poppins! ....."the Dawes, Tomes, Mousely, Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank...." How very dare you enquire after the tuppence invested on behalf of your husband MrC Esq! 🙄
Greying XHa!
I suppose technically they may be trying to protect him? "Mr Cheery, we think you transferred some money to your savings account, but your wife doesn't like it, and has complained to the bank, so we are going to forward you her complaint"??
Maybe they were trying to be helpful by attaching the messages to his account too??
Who knows. The thing that gets me is that this is clearly a bank error, not something we've done. The statement says it's a new account, it's never had anything paid into it before, and now just has this one standing order - the reference for which from the current account says [to Mrs Cheery regular saver] - the exact same reference as the standing order to MY regular saver that I cancelled on the same day.
I was making an assumption that it's the regular saver we attempted to set up for him a year ago, but that's not based on anything other than the date really. It's in the list of our payees, which made me assume it was that, but it might just be there because of this one standing order.
Hmm.
Anyway, I don't know why I'm banging on about it to you lot. Do tell me if you think I'm being unreasonable and this is perfectly reasonable behaviour from the bank!5 -
Cheery - we're always going to side with the MSE'r - nothing financial institutions ever do is in our interests/safety/advantage, it's always what suits them and yields the most profit.

I had a similar debate with our bank yesterday! Up until then when I logged in on my phone I could see the joint account, the regular saver account and the normal savings account. Yesterday I logged on and was unable to see the regular saver account. I queried it and in the end they said I was logged in as my husband and he can't see the regular saver because it was set up in my name! Why that should suddenly be the case I've no idea! So now I'm set up on my husband's phone so that at least I can still see the details when I need them! Not an ideal situation but hey ho!

@Cheery_Daff No I do not think you are being unreasonable, there is an issue here with the direct debit being used after you cancelled it, Mr C's missing account...
I wonder if you and @joedenise are using the same bank?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I’m assuming it’s the bank I use too, it is not known for its modern technology but definitely for its very clunky systems. I’m with You Cheery but don’t know if I would have the strength or patience to persist with getting to the bottom of it . Good luck

Putting my conspiracy theory hat on. I wonder if it is anything to do with them having to notify the DWP of any interesting transactions. It is going to apply to a lot more than just the universal credit & pension credit they say it is. It has already gone up from 3 to 5 benefits. Obviously child benefit will crop up eventually as there is a limit on that. Just think how many claim child benefit.3

Having to split the accounts so that only one gets notified.3

I see what you're saying, although that's not what's happened here.
Anyway, bank has replied to Mr C, saying the standing order was set up and then cancelled again. Yes, but, sigh, well, never mind. Whatever. We've gained £17.50 so...
They also said 'we were unable to discuss with Mrs Cheery because of GDPR' 🙄 Obviously this message has again appeared in MY account, so I've told them to not bother with our original query, but I do want to know what their policy is about when 'private messages to the bank' are shared with one's spouse 🙄
Anyway, I am at the train station waiting for a train to the seaside 😁7 -
