Teeth - mine crumbled a few months back, NHS referral for urgent extraction - several weeks later it crumbled and I couldnt eat or talk or sleep and so I mumbled and cried to reception who gave me the dental hospital number and I rang them and cried and they squeezed me into a cancelation the next day.
I have a fold up chair in the polytunnel and a waterproof radio for when I need a bit of peace. People can find me in the greenhouse...My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Glad I'm not the only one hiding out in garden spaces 😂😂 I don't sit in the greenhouse when it's too hot! Just when it's chilly, or too windy, or raining 😂 Definitely going to make myself a cushion for the seat though - it's made from an old pallet and the slats are a bit far apart 😂
Redo, the dentist did say to ask to go on the cancellation list, but the hospital didn't offer it and I was having a shy moment. I might reconsider, but to be honest I feel like because this is going to result in me having dentures, I'd rather be able to plan to get used to the idea properly 🙄😂 And it's not generally painful right now, thankfully. I'll keep considering it though.
Nice evening - we went to a charity fundraiser involving a friend in one of the acts. Some other folk there I've not seen for yonks too. It was quite a hike though- about 3.5 hours round trip 😱 Just got back at 1am and I'm straight off to bed!9 -
To my mind the main thing about having dentures is to make sure they stay in place when eating out or amongst friends. Some people never need help & they just stay in place. Every time I see my dentist & it involves my plate (front four plus a couple on one side now) he reminds me that even though each new one fits really well when new I will need a fixative. So basically check out when dining at home before dining with others. I have a significant loss of jaw bone so no implants unfortunately, but the embarrassing moving teeth into napkin in the Indian hasn't happened since the new ones. All I need to know now is why the loss of jawbone, I can tell the places where a LOT is missing. Can't be osteoperosis (sp) as I was on HRT until mid 60s & it wouldn't just be in the jawbone would it. Sorry for the hijack Cheery but if anyone has any bright ideas how to research this I would be grateful as ignorance is definitely not bliss.

On the jaw bone it can apparently (so says my dentist) thin through age and / or lack of chewing and movement from the opposing tooth. I don't have sufficient bone for implants apparently either and a bone graft has been suggested but I'm opposed to that as it sounds painful and my missing teeth are only just visible as they are at the side.
.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!4 -
Thanks - I'll definitely be doing lots of experimenting at home before going out in public! 😮 No idea about my jawbone - as far as I know it will take implants, I'm just not willing to pay for them, at least not until I've tried the cheaper option first!
Having a pottering about day today. Went swimming first thing, popped to town for a present for my favourite person who works in our favourite cafe, who is leaving today for a new job, then popped to the cafe to give it to her, and had a cuppa while I was in there. Home by 11, and then Mr Cheery needed to pop out for something, so I came too, and somehow we're only just on the way home 🙄😂
It's not raining at the minute, so I might have an hour or so finishing off my greenhouse tasks before heading inside for some financial admin. Need to renew my library books too. The house in dire need of an hour of tidying and a good hoover, and I'd like to sit down and get on with the little video I said I'd make for my friends last summer that's still not finished.8 -
@badmemory have you ever had a gum infection?
I had to have a bone graft for my dental implants on one side but not the other side
The damage dates back to an infection caused by a piece of apple peel getting stuck between 2 back teeth (30 years ago)
Despite me seeing the dentist within 24 hours (the good old days) I lost 2 teeth and suffered bone loss6 -

Despite me seeing the dentist within 24 hours (the good old days) I lost 2 teeth and suffered bone lossSeveral abcesses mostly caused by broken roots of my teeth. Also many of my second teeth came up with fault lines just above the gum line. I believe a lot of my tooth problems were caused by scarlet fever at a very young age which also caused a long stay in an isolation hospital. I couldn't believe it when I read that now you stay at home on antibiotics. Family history makes all this teeth stuff very interesting. My sister can't understand why only I have teeth problems as no-one else in the family does including DS who has only ever had one tooth filled even now in his 40s.Can't blame sweets as they were rationed for quite a while, but not as long as meat I don't think. My mother wouldn't go in the butchers without me as he liked to chat her up & we liked the nice meat he gave her, my younger sister was never invited as she wouldn't smile on command, I learnt early which side my bread was buttered. Sexism in action.10 -
Gosh, tooth problems can have very longstanding implications, can't they? Sorry you've all been suffering too 😕 And urgh to your creepy butcher badmemory!
I am tired, but things are getting ticked off. I have cleared away all the old pots in the greenhouse, pulled the weeds out of the gravel (I don't mind weeds at all, but every year the greenhouse fills with thistles etc and I feel I have to draw the line somewhere 😂) and cleaned all the windows, inside and out, three times - once to get rid of the grime, again to get rid of the rest of the grime, and then again with glass cleaner after the sun came out and I realised just how streaky it all was 😂
Nice and clear to sit down in now, and look out at the view 😊 I also ordered the required new panes - three squares and a triangle. Not cheap at £72 including delivery (for acrylic) but the longer it's left with missing panes, the more likely others are to break. I do need to get some more clips too, and then I'll have to co-opt Mr Cheery into either reaching the high bits or holding a ladder.
Did one of the financial jobs - facilitating the removal of the final lot of cash back out of one of Mr Cheery's switched accounts. So that's free for further offers, should any come along. Need to check the most recent ones we switched to, to ensure they have the right DDs, and to put in £1500 and take it back out, but that's being saved for tomorrow.
Between us we emptied all the bins and tidied the kitchen and dining table, and I've hoovered the bathroom while my bath is running 😁
No more big household tasks tonight. A bath, and some flute playing, and that's probably me done. A satisfying day!11
