I've been doing a lot of reading lately whilst recovering from an operation and found Rhys Dylan's DCI Evan Warlow books on kindle unlimited there are 17 and are set Wales I'm on number 12. The blurb compares him to JD Kirk and there is a lot less swearing!

I've been lurking for a while and reading all your recommendations, so my Goodreads "want to read" list continues to grow!
I've just finished The Ghost and Mrs Jeffries, it's a cosy murder series set in Victorian London. If you like Midsommer murders, you'll probably like this too.
I've also just finished Dead Man Talking by Roddy Doyle which is possibly one of the worst books I've ever read and in my opinion best avoided! It's a quick read but an hour and a half of your life you won't get back!!2025 Decluttering Campaign Mrs SD –The joy of decluttering 204/104(312)💐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Coming out of lurking as I saw @PipneyJane and @Brie mention Ben Aaronovitch. I was at a Q&A he did at my local independent bookshop in July. You’ll be pleased to know once this tour was finished he was starting on the next book!As a side note apparently his characters lurk in the virtual ‘green room! behind the whiteboard in his writing room. If they’ve been ignored for two books they start getting stroppy and banging on the whiteboard…. I suspect Lesley may make an appearance as a result!✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Colour me green with envy, @florianatwobob. I'd have loved to have been there. About a decade ago, I attended a talk Ben did at a local library. He's really nice. He's also the reason I now buy the dead-tree version of a book, together with its Kindle twin and the audiobook. He talked me into it. I can't remember his logic, but it made perfect sense. (Ben Aaronovitch, you are a bad influence.)
I finished his latest novel, Stone and Sky, last week. I really enjoyed it, although I found the swapping between narrators a bit jarring at times. More annoying was the fact that Ben referred to things that occurred only in the graphic novels - which I haven't read - so that means I now have to obtain those as well.

He is a very persuasive speaker so I’m not surprised he convinced you Pip!
I stumbled across the first RoL book on a £1 book stall on our weekly second hand market and decided to give it a go. I’ve now created 5 other fans of the series who have also going to influence others to read them. I promise I'm
not ‘using the glamour’ on them!! Im
not sure about the alternating voices, especially on the audiobook but Kobna has become very in demand as an actor so I wonder if they were juggling around his availability? My DBro has the graphic novels (handy Xmas/bday pressies) and high i keep meaning to borrow. Looks like I need to sooner rather than later.✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

The Rosie Result by Graeme Simsion - 3rd in a series (Project, Effect, Result). I've really enjoyed these three, describing first how an extremely socially awkward chap finds a girlfriend, who becomes a wife, and then how they deal with the challenges of marriage and a baby. The baby is now 11, and one running theme in book three is that his school wants him to be assessed for autism.
However, one of my friends found the first book extremely irritating and full of stereotypes, so not universally recommended. (Yes, the stereotypes are there, but I find enough truth in there to ignore them ...)

Savvy_Sue said:Oh, also picked up "The Quality of Silence" by Rosamund Lupton. I may have to take a deep breath before I start it: I read her "Sister" and had to re-read it immediately to check I'd followed it correctly. Deeply disturbing in many ways, not for the faint hearted.Signature removed for peace of mind1

A good idea to put the hospital charity book stall in the waiting area for blood tests. The opening hours have been halved so the queues are long. After reading several chapters I decided the book was worth the 50p.
