I couldn’t get into Richard Cole’s first book either but do enjoy Richard Osman.   I will try Richard Cole again but as there are so many books to read and never enough time I may have to watch the tv series instead.

I bought the first of Richard Osman's new series "We Solve Murders" today for £2.50 in a charity shop, along with "Lessons in Chemistry".

    @Savvy_Sue
So have you seen it?  What did MiL think??  Review please!!!!

For those that get the Radio Times I think they did a good spread on TTMC and completely get that Osman was having Helen Mirren shouted at him for a couple of years before filming was started.  I like on sight the casting of Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie but am waiting to see how Pierce Brosnan works out as I don't picture him as Ron.

Good evening everyone, thought I would delurk.
Interesting conversations on RoL and the TTMC. I have read the first RoL book, it wasn't the sort of book that I would normally read, my Dbro recommended it to me. TTMC I have read the first four.

Here are the books that I have read so far this year. I have my favourite authors / regular authors but I like to try something new every now and then. I have put NA against these.

I use the library for new books but I do have a pile of about 40+ books waiting to be read. 😁
Books - birthday / Christmas / library / charity shops plus a few from Waterstones ( but no where near as many as I used to buy).

    2025 (10 books + 6 library books)

Richard Osman - The Last Devil to Die

Freya Berry - The Dictator's Wife (NA)

Tom Hindle - The Murder Game

Alice Feeney - Daisy Darker (NA)

Robert Thorogood -Death Comes to Marlow

    Jo-Jo Moyles - Someone Else's Shoes

SJ Bennett - Murder Most Royal

    James Patterson - Private Monaco

    Rob Rinder - The Suspect

Tom Hindle - Death in the Artic

Lucy Foley - The Midnight Feast

Mandy Robotham- The Girl Behind the Wall

Robert Thorogood - The Queen of Poisons

Jane Casey - The Close (NA)

Jan Casey - The Woman with the Map (NA)

Emma Cline - The Guest (NA)

    Next up...

Jeffrey Archer - An Eye for an Eye (Christmas present).

    Last year's reads 😀

    2024 (21 books plus 8 library books)

    James Patterson - Triple Cross

    Jeffrey Archer - Traitors Gate

    John Grisham - The Exchange

Jennifer Robson - Our Darkest Night (NA)

Deborah Carr - An Island at War (NA)

Faith Hogan - The Ladies Midnight Swimming Club(NA)

Sheila Hancock - Miss Carter's War (NA)

Lisa Jewell - The Family Remains

    David Baldacci - First Family

Delia Owen's - Where the Crawdads Sing (NA)

Catherine Jones - Little Woodford - The Secrets of a Small Town (NA)

Heidi Perks - Now You See Her (NA)

    Anthony Horowitz - Magpie Murders

    James Patterson - Private Rome

James Patterson - Lion and Lamb

Louise Douglas - The Scarlet Dress (NA)

Richard Coles - A Death in the Parish

James Patterson - Cross Must Die

    James Patterson - Cross Down

Mandy Robotham - The War Pianist

Rob Rinder - The Trial (NA)

CJ Tudor - The Drift (NA)

Richard Osman - The Man Who Died Twice

Richard Osman - The Bullet That Missed

Alex Hay - The House Keepers (NA)

    Louise Candlish - Our Holiday

    James Patterson - Jailhouse Lawyer

James Patterson - Power of Attorney

    John Grisham - Camino Ghosts

I enjoy historical fiction plus cosy crime / thrillers. A few years ago I read a few Agatha Christie's, my aim is to read all of them.

I have put in bold the stories set around WW2.

@Gem-gem I really like the Rob Rinder books, and I have the latest Horowitz, Marble Hall Murders to read.

I like the Frances Brody books about Kate Shackleton as a lady detective in 1920s Yorkshire, also the LJ Ross summer suspense series beginning with The Cove.

I actually cried when reading The Last Devil to Die - the 4th (I think) in TTMC series. To be fair I was bedridden with COVID at the time, but I really did think it was very powerful, and it is my favourite of them all.

I cried too and I didn't have COVID 😢.   There was one section which was so beautifully and sensitively written.

I've just finished By Your Side by Ruth Jones which was good but not my favourite book by her.
