So have you seen it? What did MiL think?? Review please!!!!
For those that get the Radio Times I think they did a good spread on TTMC and completely get that Osman was having Helen Mirren shouted at him for a couple of years before filming was started. I like on sight the casting of Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie but am waiting to see how Pierce Brosnan works out as I don't picture him as Ron.
Well, we really enjoyed it, and it seemed everyone else did too - we often seem to be the oldest people in the cinema, but not this time! Daniel Mays gave an interview to The Big Issue, and here's one of the captions from the magazine:
“For my first big scene, I look up and there’s James Bond, Gandhi, the Queen, Whitney Houston and Miss Babs from Acorn Antiques." You can imagine how THAT would have felt. David Tennant is in it too, playing a baddie, which he does SO well!
I know what people mean when they say that Pierce Brosnan isn't quite 'rough' enough to play Ron, but he gives it his best shot, and I suspect at least part of the problem is his history as James Bond. Everyone else is absolutely amazing and just perfect. We really loved it.
It's only on in cinemas until Friday, and at least where I've looked for it it's only on in the posh (aka expensive!) cinemas, and they don't seem to do Meerkat Movies! So it cost about three times what we usually pay, but I wouldn't have missed it (don't do Netflix - if you do, you can get it there from Saturday).
In the end MiL decided not to go. I wasn't particularly surprised, but I just thought it was something she could cope with if she wanted to - she'd briefly considered coming to the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre with us, and it was a relief when she decided against that, because it would have been a major undertaking to get her there! whereas the cinema would have been less of an expedition.Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
When I saw the casting Pierce Brosnan is the only one I was dubious about. I had Ron down as a shorter, solider more pugnacious character and not that good looking.
It’s hard to see Brosnan as a union man.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
I really must get some Osman into my life. Thing is, I've just re-read the small print & found my brand whizzy new Kindle Will accept mobi format ebooks as well as epub etc, so I have happily shovelled a pile of my old favourites aboard (always remember a Kindle is a very fancy memory stick: you will not get the how many books this year or other stats, but I don't see why Amazon needs to know) & will be testing the battery hard in the coming weeks!

On Netflix as of yesterday and we saw it asap. I think it was a good representation of the book. I'm hoping they'll film some more.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Thanks for the reviews of TTMC. I would like to see it, but I suspect that I won’t for several weeks. We certainly won’t get to a cinema before they stop showing it.
I’m seriously thinking that I will have to cull the book collection. Heresy, I know, but there are some books that I will never read again. There’s even a few chicklit ones that I don’t know why I have them, since I’ve always preferred crime or thrillers.

I’ve recently started reading again. I’m aiming for one book a week, although it takes slightly longer if I’m not enjoying it so much. So far, I’ve read:
The Appeal, by Janice Hallett. That was a really good book, and I liked the way it’s laid out.
The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides. This had a twist at the end, although I suspected as much. It was an enjoyable read
Unearthed, by Joanne Griffiths. This was another really good book, and had a few twists I wasn’t expecting. I felt sorry for the main character, until you realise it’s not all it seems.
One False Move, by Harlan Coben, was so-so. Not on my list of favourite books that I’ve read.
I’ve just started Murderson, by Mark Yarwood. This is an easy read, so far.Out of those, I would recommend both The Appeal, and Unearthed. It’s hard to say which one I enjoyed more 😊2 -

I’ve also recently read None Of This Is True (Lisa Jewell) which was mentioned upthread. I found it a good read, kept me interested.
I’m also working my way through the Grace detective books which I am liking - noting I have not seen the tv series.2 -

I have also read both of the above books and thoroughly enjoyed them both.I have just finished reading: The Woman On The Pier by BP Walter. I didn't enjoy it as much as The Dinner Guest. That said, there was a twist at the end that I didn't expect, so I am glad that I stuck with it till the end.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons
