@PipneyJane
I was coming on her specifically to mention the new Arronovitch! And need to make a note to myself to order it from our local favourite bookshop. Just realised that I have four books on loan from Libby, four more on hold and ten on Kindle unlimited. I have two Ronald Blythe books on order from Amazon and will be going to craft group in the library today so may spot something on the New Books shelf as I walk through.I'm a fast reader and there's nothing on television at the moment. Husband watches old films all the time so I retreat to the spare bedroom which I use as a craft room.I'm thinking of getting a portable CD player so I can read and listen to music.5

London_1 said:i have been finding the odd classic book thats not been read yet, and one of my grandsons who teaches and lives in north London is always on the lookout for childrens books for his classrooms library shelf as their local LEA say they can't afford to get books for the children
Often the books I find end up on their bookshelf in London (I trawl boot sals and CS for them )
Ben (my grandson) is very keen that all of his Year 5 children can read before they go into the last class before secondary school.
As he says, how can children read text books or exam paper if they struggle to read.
The last 15 minutes of class time every afternoon is devoted to the children reading. He isn't fussed what they read as long as it grabs their imagination He says he's happy for the boys to read a sports magazine if they want to if it gets them reading.
He says its often harder to get boys to read than girls. He is devoted to the kids and will do as much as he can to help them Its an inner city school with lots of problems .Many struggle with english as its their second language, but he wants them all to have a chance to get ahead if they can. Reading opens up a world of opportunities for them
Boys, books, reading: I wonder if it's worth you looking out for things like Asterix, Tintin, and I'm sure there are more recent comic books like that?Signature removed for peace of mind3 -
Our grandsons liked the Dogman books, Minecraft, and Alex Rider graphic novels. As Granny I was given the latest titles to get for Christmas. They both enjoy reading now and go to several local libraries for a treat.2

I find that boys love reading books by Darren Shan.2

I managed to read 'The dry' by Jane Harper for one of the book clubs I attend.
It was interesting and not something I normally read.
I'm 3/4 of the way through where the crawdads sing for the same book club.
Once I've finished I've borrowed 'a force of nature' and 'exiles'by Jane Harper from the library.
I'm hoping they're good.Decluttering campaign 2023

I have become addicted to Kate Atkinson books, I've just read her 'Behind the scenes at the Museum' and it unputdownable I managed to snaffle some of her Jackson Brodie books from the library that I haven't read
I read Hunter Davies 'Love in Old Age' about his first year on the Isle of Wight and its brilliant was recommended it by one of the coffee morning ladies and its a fabulous book which I had to wait on reserve for from the library
I let DD loan it last night, and now she can't stop reading it either.
