Yes, I also like wintery cold books (and films) for some reason - they seem to lend themselves to a good atmosphere!
I've read The Chalet and had forgotten all about it - thanks for the reminder, as I see that Catherine Cooper has written at least a couple more that also sound promising! (A downside for me of reading a lot of ebooks is that I find it much easier to forget author names and book names, I think because you don't look at the covers very much - I need to get back in the habit of keeping lists of favourite authors to look out for.)3 -
Coxy - Where the crawdads sing is an excellent book. Far better than the film, in my opinion, but I always think that.2

I finished Where the Crawdads Sing earlier this week - really enjoyed it. Might watch the film now I've read the book. Currently on The Housemaid's Secret by Freida MacFadden - already halfway through as it's a quick read and has just got a bit interesting.... Might try something weightier next like Shuggie Bain or Small Island.Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings1

I was trying to save money by using the library, but I had obviously pre-ordered the new Lucy Foley book - The Midnight Feast to my kindle as it turned up this morning!
Midsummer, the Dorset coast
In the shadows of an ancient wood, guests gather for the opening weekend of The Manor: a beautiful new countryside retreat.
But under the burning midsummer sun, darkness stirs. Old friends and enemies circulate among the guests. And the candles have barely been lit for a solstice supper when the body is found.
It all began with a secret, fifteen years ago. Now the past has crashed the party. And it’ll end in murder at…

Husband didn't know what to get me for our wedding anniversary, so he bought be two Kindles. That'll be #10 and #11. I have to choose two to retire now. I got two new ones because the batteries are still pants. One doesn't last all day. He got me two big ones though I prefer the smaller ones for reading.
Don't think I will get the gold badge in the Kindle Reading Challenge. I got six Perfect Week badges though.3 -
