TKAM was one of my first favourite books, very fond memories of that one. The phrase 'licked from the start' always seem to stick in my head
If we're talking classics, I absolutely loved Catcher in the Rye when I read it as a very sad teenager though suspect I might not have the same feelings for it now!
I will definitely keep an eye out for OMAM and Cannery Row but I'm meant to be on a no buy year for books - I've only bought two so far (Cloud Atlas, which I've been looking for for ages, and a German translation of The House at the Mosque, both of which were from a NT charity shop).£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January2 -
MrsStepford said:Thanks @Quasar 😀 Do you know a book called The Silver Spoon by Phaidon ? An Italian recommended it to me and husband just bought it for me.
@-taff I found La Cucina on Amazon but I think that will have to be a birthday treat. Luckily, it's in 9 days 😉 I can report that I found the Pellegrino Artusi book as a Kindle edition for 99p ! It's in Italian though. I took Italian as an elective for a term or two in uni, but I think if I look up all the cooking verbs, I should be able to manage. It will be fun trying, anyway ! I have watched some of the Pasta Grannies videos on YouTube. Brilliant concept, to ensure that the traditional recipes aren't lost. I have also watched some videos of Stanley Tucci cooking. He has his own (expensive) cookware range out. I need Taste, I think that should be in my To Buy List.
We are getting rid of a lot of current cookbooks hopefully, via We Buy Books and Ziffit.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.2 -
It was a set book at school and we had to sit through the old movie of same name. I think Gregory Peck starred ?
Husband has run off with the Keith Floyd, Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver cookbooks so no idea what he will do for Sunday lunch.4 -
Ive read of mice and men, a Christmas carol and Romeo and Juliet as part of the gcse.
We were encouraged to read the classics and the broadsheet papers in school while doing the gcse's if not the year before. It suited me as I've for the most part had a lovely of reading.
I can second the horse whisperer, interesting story. I read it as a teenager.
I've also read several of the Peter v Brett demon cycle books and enjoyed them, although I hope to read the rest of the series.
Trudi canavan is okay, I've not read much of her latest set of books, but the age of five set plus their several others that are good, one being called novice, the other high lord.
Ive fairly recently discovered mark Lawrence and read a 3 book set which had me gripped.
There is another set based in the same land that merge in a sence, but it's something I've not read much of that's on the do read list.Decluttering campaign 2023

Has anyone mentioned Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle? I remember that after reading that from the library I discovered they also had her book The New Moon and the Old.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Aha, I've found my people!
I read every night and my Kindle lives under my pillow - if I wake up in the night, I have a read. Apparently I registered it on 25/12/12, and it's still going strong.
I'm trying to stick to free books, which I get through Prime or searching for free books. I use the library occasionally for myself but regularly take the kids and my son is signed up to BorrowBox.
I'll read most things. I go back to Reacher and Bosch when I want to completely switch off, I rarely reread anything otherwise. I'm currently reading His & Hers by Alice Feeney which is pretty good (IMO).6
