But you have your own word, your statement of truth at the bottom of your impending WS that will state what happened and that you put the claimant to strict proof that it was working, because you will be stating that it wasnt wirking and must have been faulty , a common occurrence  !

So you should write your draft WS and post it below for critique,  regardless of whether you said it in your defence statement 

The court requires 2 signed statements from you,  the defence statement and your WS, so start drafting it, after checking your email inbox and spam folders in case they emailed the N279 discontinuation document to you, which you are hoping for,  same as everyone else

Ive put a first draft down . . . . . am i missing anything ?

1. I, *******, of 1************************, am the Defendant in this matter. I make this statement in support of my defence and to refute Euro Car Parks’ claim that I am liable to pay a Parking Charge Notice (and associated costs) in relation to an alleged parking contravention at ********** on 01/10/2023. This statement is true to the best of my knowledge and belief.
2. On 1 October 2023, I entered the Green Oaks car park and proceeded directly to the payment machine to pay for parking. I attempted to make payment multiple times; however, the machine was displaying errors and would not accept payment despite several attempts.
3. Due to the persistent malfunction of the machine, I went into the store to seek assistance. The store was extremely busy, so I waited to speak to a manager and informed him of the issue. I was advised that he was unable to resolve or repair the machine.
4. Having been unable to pay due to circumstances beyond my control, I returned to my vehicle and left the car park as soon as possible.
5. I believe that the facts stated in this witness statement are true.

You can remove the statement of truth sentence at the end of 1)

Remove 5) and add the current WS statement of truth at the end, which is longer and been in force since the pandemic

I have read the advice but im obviously not understanding it - can you expand on what is missing ?

You were given advice on 4th & 5th December about some posters who have recently posted witness statements you could use as examples of style and format.  Use those examples in which to embed your narrative; add evidence as advised.

You seem to have forgotten to go back to the second post of the NEWBIES thread.

It's there because we can't do this piecemeal. I wrote a long list of recommended exhibits ... that nobody seems to read.

It's a self-help forum, so we need posters to read the NEWBIES thread (and re-read your defence of course) and show us your planned WS and exhibits.
