  • Well had a lovely day - pottered at the plot & had a bonfire. ANother pile to burn but wind blowing toward local houses so thought it best to wait!! Cleared loads of brambles from the back of the plot which was great as want to make a shortcut path to the loo! Had a lovely cup of tea with the sun blazing while chatting to a tame robin who flits to & fro as I work! Seriousy, its as close to heaven as you can get without being dead!! Going to pop up again tomorrow with the little & often approach! Other than that just been chilling & now going to watch sense & sensib - or is it pride & prejudice!! Seriously MUST cut back on food though - just waded through about 10 chocs a friend gave me!!

Sounds like you had a lovely chilled out day and glad you didn't work too hard.will catch up tomorrow as its late now.
  • Well another day..quietish again. Went to Mr T for chutney stuff & marmalade so o/d well & truely initiated! Was good & didnt use the CC (O/D is 0%) which is my usua thing.
Car is booked in tomorrow as the exhaust is ratting & it really needs a service as I havent had one for ages & do alot of miles...fingers crossed that its not horrendous...must check hen the MOT due as think its soon - very confusing having tax/mot diff months!
One advantage of DFWness is leftovers and made merague with eggs that needed t be used - delicious! Just had them with the last cream and blueberries....foolproof recipe worked agai & I litera;;y whipped the merague up in 10 mins! Starting to be quite a confident cook now - something I'd never have dne before DFWness!
Popped to allotmet for a bit & had a natter to a bloke i havent seen for ages. I have some new neighbors but havent spoken to them yet. Feeling quite sore today so went gently and cleared a path so I can now go the short way to the loo! Yahoo! Then finished my CJ whih is OK but as some will understad I'm not happy with it - something missing but cant see quite what yet IYKWIM!!

Glad you enjoyed your time at the allotment but please be careful as I don't want you becoming ill!!!...hope your car doesn't cost too much to fix...will catch up with you later..take carexx
  • aww taxi, my faithful poster!
Had a quietish morning just tidying and made chutney which is bubbling away. Car is being looked at as we speak - told them to do a service, exhaust & check brakes. Service isnt due until June so best to get it looked at now and prevent naff stuff happening. I do alot of miles so best prevent! Plus sometimes I think that its worth spending a bit to save a bit IYKWIM!! Have been too good at paying off recently but last month paid too much & went od and that makes me feel I've failed so am trying to be more measured. It will all get paid off but I have to accept that it takes time. I'd love to be one of those DFWers who can go all out, never spend a penny more than I need etc but I'm not!! My spending is so much better than it was and the small changes have made a huge difference overall! Got a nice £20 from surveys this am in M&S vouchers so will have fun spending that! Unsure if I can use them to pay my account thinking about it! Will also try to overpay each card a bit each month so that at least the interest is paid. Must investigate what I've actually paid off in the last few months as inspiration!!
Off to investigate the race for life! My WRN woman said I should go for a 5k in the summer, 10 k in autumn & 1/2 marathon next year but am selectively ignoring the latter!! I do realise at times go on that I need to have goals & challenges to work toward - ie paying the £8000 this year!

I always believe in having cars properly serviced prevention is better than cure so to speak.Like I say hope yours isn't too dear but had the end of the day we have to be safe in our cars.We have to tackle our debts whatever way is best for us at the end of the day and we all choose different ways and have to do what allows us to feel comfortable.
We all have different things we need at different times. You have a job with a good income and will probably not face any crisis in a recession...whereas I will be severely hit in recesssion as people decide to cut back on going out and this is why I have to go all out my only salvage being I will not give up my yearly holiday though I have this year....
This is why I need to cut my expenses to the bone where possible as the recession really worries me so the less debt I have the better...
We all have to do things how they fit us best....we also have to have some kind of life...you are doing absolutely fantastically and found that you made a little mistake in overpaying too much and hitting your o/d...you should be really proud of what you've achieved so far as your debt is coming down...when you look back on what you owed when you joined and what you owe now ....and what you have learnt...
  • aww thanks taxi you really are a sweetie! I can totally understand why the recession makes you nervous & feel the same even though I have a good job. Things like the Northrn Rock (who I have a loan with), egg (who I have a CC with!) make me feel physically sick! The fact that I am on my oen leaves me financially very vulnerable which at times scares the XXXX out of me! WHile my job is secure due to the nature of society illness is a worry! If I was on long term sick I'd be stuffed TBH but will cross that as and when it ever happens...
Have now applied for race for life & this year am going to run it. Last year I walked (or waddles at 16 stone 10) round it! Raised £260 last year so going for £400 this year! If anyone wants to sponsor me just let me know & I'll pn a link but also very aware of the fact that so many are struggling so now pressure on my part! I'll then go for a 10k which my lovely WRN woman will find for me as I dont know what are good and bad races to enter! My mum is also going to do it which will be lovely - although she will walk! The course is round a beautiful park locally which is a vast improvement on last years very dull walk! Am going to downloadthe training prog so I can plan for when I can run again in a couple of weeks! Meanwhile will go for the cross trainer! If I get my car back (which worryingly they are still working on!) I may go later but suspect that it will be tomorrow now but we'll see! Am off now to hunt out some sums which I suspect may depress me slightly as havent moved much in the last couple of months in the grand scheme of things!!

  • To be honest, I think we all feel a bit nervous about the idea of a recession - excepting, maybe, debt collectors and receivers?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I may do it this year in aid of a friend of mine that died a fortnight ago...she was a very brave lady and set the race for life off last year..if I start to get fitter then I will do it but if not this year will be back fit for next year. She was only 47 and left a wonderful husband a daughter and 2 wonderful grandchildren. She was very cheerful up to the end and planned her own funeral and even had a video played at it all vey touching!!!
