Daily Thread 27th December 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 27th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning guys.. for once i am up at the crack of dawn, so thought i would type on this thread, and to my surprise, its nowhere to be seen!

Today is essentially our christmas day.. on 25th we're on our own, ditto 26th, but on 27th every year my parents and grandmother come to visit, when i do a full on turkey xmas dinner (mom and dad have gran to stay with them, and they do a roast lamb or something on xmas day, on boxing day they go to see my dad's mom) ... so i'm 2 days behind everyone else!

The Turkey stuffed, covered in butter and bacon, and is in the oven, giblets cooked down into stock last night ready for gravy, presents are all wrapped and waiting - the only real problem is that we're low on coffee!! One good thing about doing this on 27th - i can dash out to get stuff if necessary.. About all that remains to be done is to clean me, walk the dog, and sort out the table. Oh, and do a little bit of washing up. And prep the veg. :)

Hope everyone has a good day - a nice relaxing one. I, for one, look forward to joining the relaxing ranks at about 6pm, when visitors are gone, the fridge is full of food, and i can do absolutely nothing for a couple of days!!

    Morning everyone.
Today is clear out day!! We aim to tackle 2 of the kids bedrooms and have a good sort out, ebay have 10p listing day on sat so aimming to get some items to sell, as i will be using my ebay sale money towards summer hoilday or thats the plan anyway!!

Then this afternoon we are off on a `get lost` drive, we havent done this for ages, but just want to get out the house for a few hours after being in for 2 days, we just get in the car and go where ever we want the kids tell us which turns they want to go down, and if we do get lost we just stick the sat nav on to help us find out where we are!!!! Im packing up some food to take with us and hopefully will find somewhere to sit and eat it, although its really windy here.
Hope you all have a good day off to make a start!

Have fun donna - we used to do a similar thing called busseling. Basically you set some rules like getting on the first bus - go five stops get off and repeat a set number of times and then try to find your way home - if lucky you end up somewhere new and interesting.

back to w*rk today - can't say I'm looking forward to it especially going outside for the first time in days. I am half a skeleton staff and will have to go into court today so while everyone else is in jeans I am suited and booted. dd11 is getting ready to go to her dsis for the day and then we will leave.

The house is pretty much back to normal and all the leftovers are stashed in the freezer so that's that. I have never liked christmas, even as a child so am always relieved when it's over. Next year I will do Crisis again.

    have a good day all
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • Morning All

    (((hugs))) if needed.

Had a lie in but woke up with a bad headache - have taken some tablets so it has subsided a little.

Back to sort of normal today, OH is back at work tonight but at least has only 2 nights this week and the weather isnt too bad for him. Today I need to do some paperwork and OH has stated he will clear the washing basket so I will have some ironing later. Pity my bargain steam generator iron hasnt turned up.

Will go out for a walk or bike ride later with the dog am hoping that the kids occupy themselves with their new stuff all day. Will be updating the banks later and if have enough money will work out a day in which to go and see Enchanted, might also find a babysitter so oh and I can go and see I Am Legend.

Had turkey rissoto last night whilst the others had turkey and chips, I am thinking I might use the last of the turkey as another roast today - just need to get some more brussels.

Need to go in the shower but think Im going to treat myself to a lovey surf on here first.

    Have a great day.

  • Hi everyone, nice and quiet here again at the moment - not for long can hear at least one set of lead boots upstairs moving around! Today have got to go shopping with the kids aaaaaagh! Need to get a few bits and pieces, but will take them to the park if the rain stays off on the way back so they can let off some steam and get some much needed fresh air into their lungs! Other than than OH back to work, and all pretty much back to normal in most respects. Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning all.

Well, I'm not very mobile today as my back has seized up. I've had some painkillers and put the tens on. I'm just thankful it didn't happen two days ago.

I want to put some draught proofing up at the gas cupboard door today if I can. The cupboard - which is in the small bathroom - backs on to the outside cupboard, and a really strong draught comes through there. I've got the type which you nail to the frame, so it's debatable whether it will be done today or tomorrow.

I'm putting plans together to try and make 2008 more organised - meal planning, budgeting etc, jobs that need doing round the house. I've bought a journal so will start getting bits down.

I was looking through some recipe books last night and found a nice meatloaf one. I've not made a meatloaf before so will give it a go. I aim to make more new dishes next year, rather than our usual. It's just that DD1 is sooo fussy, so it's easier to stick to the same things.

Essex-girl, Enchanted is a lovely film.

    Enjoy your christmas dinner, kethry

    Hope you're ok Penny-Pincher!!

    Have a good day all.

hi still feeling rotten and ds1 was sick loads yesterday, ketones are 1.2 today so quite high but he seems a better, has managed toast and has kept it down.

will keep an eye on him, if he is sick again i will phone hospital for advice, also heard from mum that my great aunt has died last night from ketoacidosis, wont go into too much detail but am shocked at how the hospital has handled this:mad:

evryone still in shock i think.

mum has told me not to tell ds1, which would affect him too much esp with him having diabetes too

im feeling a bit better today but still like rubbish:eek:

    Good morning everyone,

Welcome back Kethry and RonanKfan - glad you are both well xxx

PP - hope you feel better soon.

Essex-girl - we went to see Enchanted on Sunday, was very good - funny, musical and not to brain taxing!!!

Stefjb - shame you have to work, hope it all goes well.

dlb - good luck on your drive - hope you end up somewhere nice!!!!

:hello: mrs-mix and anyone who posts after xxx

Well, nothing much planned for today - have to go for my weekly blood test in a moment but thats about it. DS will prob want his footie magazine, and being the bad mum that i am, i didnt get them any credit for the phones they got for christmas, so i promised that when we were out i would get some, so we will also do that.

Still have plenty of food left over, yesterdays bubble and squeak was lovely, today will be cold goose sandwiches - thats the last of the goose, the rest has been portioned up and put in the freezer. Dinner will be stew that i froze last week with dumplings - a bit of goodness after all the sweets and chocolates we have been shoving down our throats!!!

Ive started taking some of the christmas decs down already, i really love christmas, but as the house tends to look like santas groto by christmas day, once its over, ive had enough, so i gradually start to put it away - it will all be down by new years day.

Right, off to finish my cuppa, and maybe some breakie - i hope everyone has a lovely day,

    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
