A week in Devon in January … 3 weeks in India last month … Paris a couple of weeks ago … northern France in April … the northern belle a bit later in the month… Austria and Switzerland in May/June … sorry, kids, we’re spending it on us! Add in the bits of paid consultancy work and the many more bits of charity work (as in, it ain’t all me, me, me) and there are few days that are the same. The weeds in the garden are having a whale of a time!It won’t last, as age and health will inevitably get in the way … hopefully, not for a while. We saved long and hard for this phase of our lives, so grabbing it while we can!19

"Sorry kids"......lol
A parents role is to make sure your kids are self sufficient .........
There will be massive problems in 30 years.
Half the population will inherit houses
The rest will live in relative poverty0 -
I think it is already happening.sgx2000 said:"Sorry kids"......lol

I do not know how long you have been retired, but from what I have read ( and felt it a bit myself )that for many people the initial burst of holidays, DIY projects etc starts to wane in attraction after a couple of years.Steve_PL_too said:A week in Devon in January … 3 weeks in India last month … Paris a couple of weeks ago … northern France in April … the northern belle a bit later in the month… Austria and Switzerland in May/June … sorry, kids, we’re spending it on us! Then you start searching for a bit more purpose, or maybe just prefer sitting with your feet up !
Everybody is different of course but apparently this two year thing is quite common.

Although DIY and travel look attractive from the perspective of being someone a couple of years from retiring (taking nothing from granted), I think that meaningful activity is going to be key to happiness. I’m sure that will mean different things to different people.Albermarle said:

But yes, it has a certain appeal 😉
Like the Seven Dwarfs, we're "busy doing nothing"How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -
For me retirement is about having the flexibility to do what I want when, and also the loss of the dreaded Sunday evening feeling. Can't wait to lose that!saucer said:
