            @the_lunatic_is_in_my_head has already advised in the post at 1158.
 The Consumer Contracts Regulations0
-
            I have quoted that was told it does not apply as the box is open0
-
            On what basis did they refuse? Was it you could return but they couldn't arrange it OR did they not confirm you had the right to return.
 i.e. when you quoted the rules at them as given by lunatic, what did they say?...specifically say "I'd like to cancel my contract under the Consumer Contracts Regulations...I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.0

 Is that what the people on the phone said when you quoted your cancellation rights?pepsik said:Thank you for your responses they have just said as the box is opened they cannot/willnot help it just needs a bit of HP tape so I am at a loss
 If so, then you may need to write a complaint (pen and paper or facebook message according to their contact page - both are fine).

 Someone might kindly draft you something (I'm on my phone as it's lunch so can't right now). But it's fairly simple I think:
 - You would give the timeline of what's happened (when you bought, when you tried to return);
 - state that as you paid for the item online you have the right to inspect the item and return within 14 days as per the Consumer Contracts Regulations;
 - that your return was incorrectly rejected on two occasions (in store and when you requested it by phone);
 - as you attempted return to store, you now expect them to arrange collection;
 - give them a timescale (14 days).
 After 14 days, the question is how did you pay and how much was the laptop?

 Would you get to open the box and break the seal in the shop , or would you be shown a demo model rather than opening the box of the one you buy?LightFlare said:If it’s a true distance sale then you are allowed to examine the product to the same extent that you would be as on a premises.
 If that means you have to break a seal to enable you to do that, then so be it.
 Did you order AND pay for it remotely and just collect from the shop ?
 This will form the basis for whether it can be classed as a remote purchase.
 Others will be along to quote the exact and relevant legislation0

            Write a letter to them setting out clearly why you're returning it and under the law quoted by others, earlier. With respect, your posting style on here is somewhat rushed and erratic, so it's possible you haven't quite conveyed the right message to them over the phone. You could try again, perhaps writing a script down so you don't get distracted, or you could write them a letter.
 If all that has genuinely happened is that the seal on the box has been broken and the laptop hasn't even been turned on, you're entitled to return it. It may take some patience and a few steps to achieve that, though.1
