I ended up buying a LOVELY 1 bed leasehold flat in April. The flat is in Highams Park, Zone 4 & 23 minutes by overground from Liverpool Street where I work now. I am still going through the conveyancing sadly because the property management company, FirstPort, is delaying everything since they do not reply to solicitors inquiries (or when they do they do not give satisfactory answers). I read their reviews in Trustpilot & they are ALL horibble. I am very stressed & even considering pulling out because if FP create such issues now, I'm not sure what happens once I'll be in their leasehold. Let me know your thoughts.
Makes me glad to be freehold!

For management companies I would tend to care more about the fees mind you, are those reasonable?

With regards to the transaction, I take it the vendor hasn't been able to help deal with them?
  • @Filo25 I pulled out today sadly! I am happy though because even if I wasted 2K to solicitors I feel I saved a lot more from the future.
  • Sorry to read this, I am planning to buy soon somewhere in London, not an easy task!
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

    Oh dear!

Sorry Nick- just seen this after a few weeks off. Probably a wise decision. I pulled out of a leasehold purchase a couple of times; once before spending anything on fees when my own informal research revealed that the block’s Freeholder was a right Bedstead. On another time (after committing a couple of grand on fees) cos the vendor - a developer who’d accepted it as a part-exchange - was totally useless at responding to enquiries, dragged their feet, then wouldn’t do repairs or drop the price after water damage from above;  luckily before exchange.

Good luck moving on. Half of the homes we’ve bought have been lucky finds after a prior failure ; once or twice after we’d almost given up looking. As my Scottish mother would say "Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye"

Let’s hope that proves true for you

    Sounds like price/lack of value?
  • Sounds far more like issues with the management company, to me...
