Good morning, I sorry I’ve been MIA. Lots going on. We put the house on the market then thought better of it and took it off again. It really does make sense to stay here and try and pay off as much as we can of the mortgage. I also have my car loan which needs to go.

I made a huge faux pas also thinking, as my job is still relatively new and all of my payslips have been different, that I actually got paid more per month than I actually do. It has settled down now with healthcare and pension being taken out. But I get paid about £400 less than i thought.

OH is away for a v long seeming 3 weeks, I’m v much struggling with childcare and work and not sleeping. I thought I would use this time he’s away to just focus on me but I haven’t even got time for that. So I’m a bit grumpy.

I got paid Wednesday and removed how much I still want to save to my M0nzo account but I’m pretty short in my main account. Still have a little from small business until it sells so hoping that will top it up somewhat!

Right enough if my moaning. Onwards and upwards!

I must admit I was a little nervous when you said you were wanting to move house.  I think it is very wise to stay put and get a good chunk paid off the mortgage.   There is nothing to say you cant do some renovations to make it more how you would like it maybe, once you have saved up the money.

It is annoying when payslips keep changing while adjusting for this and that, and much better when you know exactly what is coming in.  At least you can budget correctly.

Sorry you are alone for 3 weeks, I think you are right to look at it as time for yourself.  Maybe you will have a little more time now its the weekend.  Maybe you will find time for a little pamper night tonight

Thanks so much for your reply @slm6002. I do feel
i have made the right decision about the house. Struggling massively today, Have had a bit of a melt down today. Some v stressful things going on at work and struggling with childcare etc, and ds lying to my face about his phone, and ex is being a complete B about money, arguing over £18 🤦🏻‍♀️. I had to work today and haven’t been sleeping well, as w
OH is away. I ended up with a migraine (first bad one I’ve had in 10 years) and taking myself to bed all afternoon but unfortunately I didn’t tell OH and he was beside himself with worry about me 🤦🏻‍♀️ when he tried phoning and messaging and got no answer, he sent one of my friends round to check on me as he’s away. Very embarrassing. But nice that he cares. I had a proper chat with OH and I think he understands I’m struggling. He said all the right things at least which is new.

So getting back on track looking at house stuff. Im hoping to have saved a total of £4k by the end of the month. But I think it’s quite a high target. I would like to get the floor and the bathroom done at some point so that will go towards that.

I need to get my food back on track, need some easy healthy food ideas as I don’t think that’s helping me.

Hi thanks @newgirly I appreciate your comments. So update. We are definitely not selling the house. But are making some changes so we have less stuff and making a space to workout as it’s important for wellbeing as well as health. I have had the spendiest of months due to May’s birthday and getting all the new workout equipment along with trips and school uniforms etc. Savings are somewhat depleted. I still have some more to pay so am trying to manage that.

Life has been crazy trying to juggle things, me and OH have struggled, we have reached breaking point and after many chats and arguments and sleepless nights we have hopefully turned a corner.

Businesses are being sold in a matter of weeks. Which will help with the stress. I’m in the process of trying to help myself. I need to find some time and some brain space to start looking after myself a bit better, to be more organised and sort my life out, financially, health wise, physically, emotionally and mentally.

OH is working away for 3 weeks in a week so that will give me some time to start my self care journey.

I really need to be on top of money this month and stop dipping into savings. I’ve been mindlessly spending on food shopping. £85+ a week. I’ve been trying to be healthy and getting deliveries from Sainsbury’s but I think I’m better just popping into Lidl when I can and not buying the branded stuff so much.

I’ll see what I can do by trying to just use cash for shopping, as I do have some notes at home.

I hope you’re all ok and I will try and post more often.

  • Hi
just read your diary and will follow along on your MF journey. My kids are a little older than yours and we’ve definitely found they have a lot less stuff through the teenage years and it is more contained rather than all over the house. I would love to downsize rather than increase the size of the house but not sure we are quite ready for that yet. Whereas only 5 years ago it seemed like our house was two small. Funny how quickly things change.

Ok so I have 2 more years left on the mortgage at the rate it is on. I think we have 18 years on it as it stands. I would love to get this down to 8 or even 12 and I think it’s at about £230k. I need to check when it actually rolls over to the next year as when we sell the business I’ll have about £35k which I want to pay off, but obv can’t do it all in a year as would be over the 10% they allow. I’m wondering whether I would be better putting it in a high interest account until the mortgage rate is up and we switch. Rate is currently 2.1. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I’m trying to move around £1000 a month from my wages , into my Monzo account which is for anything other than every day bills. I did well saving this up. But I’ve spent most of it on the improvements to the house etc. I like to keep a £1k buffer just in case. I have other savings in PB which I’m just leaving as they are for real emergencies.

So as I said before my month is really tight. So I have worked out my next 2 Sainsbury’s shops. First one is £50 and the second is £30. And I’ve meal planned for both of which I will share shortly.

Tbh at this point with the rollercoaster you have bern having with your DH I’d not be inclined to pay it off the mortgage unless he too is paying 35k off.
