Thank you all, I appreciate your comments and advice. I’m going to sit down and do some hard sums later and see what I can come up with. Feeling very fragile today, didn’t get a lot of sleep at all, me and OH argued massively about the ‘state of the house’ as it’s a pig sty with no place to put anything. And Roo is still poorly bless him, so he’s still off school. Yesterday was a NSD, I hope today is too. Can’t remember what I’m doing for dinner, it’s probably stew or similar which the children will moan about but hey ho.4

Morning, Missy. Hugs for your feeling fragile 🤗🤗🤗. I guess with the move to working full-time, it's going to take time for everyone to realise they are going to have to pull more of their weight on the home front. Regarding the new house, the things that came to my mind were the fact you are likely still in you probationary period? And has the business sold yet? Also wondering if OH has secured a new job with the business selling? I followed you on your old diary and I know things have been up in the air this last year for you in so many different ways, and I imagine a new house would feel like a fresh start, but just thinking it might not be the best time to take on a huge new financial commitment.Live the good life where you have been planted.

One day at a time, work, houses with kids, and other halves....sometimes not a great mix. Once you've had a better night sleep everything will work itself out. I like to bribe my kids with exchanges, they do some house work, I buy them a treat or give them pocket money. When they were younger this worked really well in keeping the house relatively tidy. But kids and tidy houses don't generally mix as I found out myselfMORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Thanks @Elisheba I really appreciate your comment. It’s not a decision I’d take lightly so we’ll see what happens.@debtfreewannabe321 it is all a juggling game. I am struggling especially this week with lots of work, no sleep and Roo being poorly. I feel like I’m not quite keeping up. Bring on the weekend, although we’ve got BIL surprise birthday party and I hate parties and won’t know v many people at all but OH will have the best time. I’m really not a sociable person. Think I’ve found something to wear that I already have that looks ok so money saved there
NSD today. We had omelettes and children had pizza for dinner.3 -
So in the office today, OH is looking after Roo, which seems to involve going to the cafe?! I’ve spent £5 on breakfast and lunch, my brain hasn’t been functioning because I’m so tired so didn’t think to pack anything. It will be this afternoon that I struggle as I always want chocolate and I’m pretty sure I don’t have any but I do have biscuits so I think they will have to do. I really don’t want to have to go back to the office as really not feeling the day as it’s so cold and I’m so busy.Me and OH are going to sit over dinner and go through things, no idea what dinner will be but something! I think Roo has perked up and will be at school tomorrow must be the cafe food 🤦🏻♀️.
Bring on 5.15 that’s all I can say!2 -
Ok so today has been a no spend day, I was going to get coffee and I was going to get some cheapy jewellery from primark for BiL party tomorrow. But after having 5-6 hours sleep every night this week I decided to just not go out and try and chill today, so money saved. Roo went to school today but May had to stay home with a trapped nerve. I honestly could really do with a break.I really need to go shopping but I’m refusing, so children have a tomato pasta thing I’ve made up for dinner and me and OH are having a bottom of the fridge veg stew. Well it’s got 2 tiny chicken breasts in, so I’ll pick those out for OH as I don’t care not having meat.Going to look at a house on Sunday and speak to bank on Monday. I think it will work as the bank should let us use the rate we have on the mortgage for the amount we already have on the mortgage and only put higher rate on the extra We borrow, which makes it more manageable. But to get that down further I am scrimping for the foreseeable to try and chuck everything at savings which will then go towards the mortgage. I’m aiming for 2.5k for Jan and Feb which is doable. And 2k every month after. It sounds a lot I know. but I will literally just be raiding all of the pots I set up for birthdays and haircuts and clothes and savings and mortgage OP, so I shall be cutting my own hair for the foreseeable and clothes will have to be from Vinted when needed. And the children are super spoilt so cutting down on birthdays and Christmas isn’t a bad thing and we can try and do free things over the school holidays. and our august holiday abroad will just have to wait for another year although we have already booked a cheap one in April but that’s already paid for and half board so will just need spending money.
I need to make some time for me, my diet is shocking and I v rarely go to the gym and sleep is not happening. I need to address this so I will try and set some things up for that to happen on Sunday.
I have £60 left for fuel this month and £80 for food shopping although OH will get this weeks then I will get the 2 subsequent weeks, 1 of which he’s away for so £40 per week will actually be ok hopefully, as he eats the most!
I’m a little pleased with myself for being so good with my spending and for posting on here. It is really helping me stay focussed.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.8 -
Keep posting it really does help keep motivation going. I hope everyone is on the mend soon.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Hey how is everyone doing? What a soggy weekend! So actually had a really nice night out last night, but omg soooooooo expensive, with childcare and drinks I spent over £100, and I think OH spent the same as he got taxis as well. Now I know why we don’t go out drinking v often, well ever! We go out for dinner sometimes but I don’t mind that as such and it’s never that much. I think I have dodged a hangover but only got 4 hours sleep so think I’ll end up paying for that later with a nap on the sofa. Going to look at houses shortly, in fact I need to wake OH up. Speak soon2

Thanks @Elisheba it was nice but I’m just so tired today. So it’s been a busy day. We went to look at a new build house which is super expensive but it’s amazing and we looked at another house which was cheaper slightly smaller and not new but better lay out.
We have decided that our current house is just too small. We have stuff everywhere in the kitchen as there is no room to put cat food or bottles or the bread maker away etc. the upstairs constantly looks like a Chinese laundry as there’s nowhere to dry anything and we don’t have a tumble dryer, and my wardrobe is actually the airing cupboard and the office is just too small for me to work from home happily, we currently only have 1 shower which is a Problem with 4 of us and the garage is just too small now with the motorbikes in it.There’s so much to think about. We do need to get our house on the market though whatever we decide to buy. So OH has been painting and sorting so hopefully by the end of the week we will be in a position to get it on the market. It’s a difficult position. The older house will need a new boiler before too long and needs new carpets and painting throughout and the garden would need sorting and the kitchen is a little outdated. Where as the new house would be pristine but would be £90k more with no overlooking in the garden obv up to date everything and nothing needing doing.
The thought of stamp duty makes me feel a bit sick though. I’m hoping this will become clearer as the week goes on.
So back to today. After we looked at the houses we went and got some more paint. Then OH cracked on with the en-suite whilst I did the washing, dishwasher and went and got the shopping. It came to £83 but OH paid this time and it will make for a much cheaper one next week. I got washing powder and fabric conditioner, and maybe a bottle of wine or 2 😬. Usually we just buy a bottle on a whim but it’s usually £7.50 from the coop but at sainsburys it was only £5 which is much better. I seem to have a lot of tins of tomatoes but I’m not quite sure why! I intend to make a chilli and bolognaise this week so that should use that up.We had left over stew for dinner and I made the children chicken egg fried rice! It was so easy and simple all from the freezer and ready made rice!I’m more than tired, v much looking forward to going to bed!1
