Ian
EDIT: Ouch, sorry to hear about the RSI, maybe you should slow down a bit? << oops just realised the date!Student Moneysaving Expert :beer:0 -
Spoke to the actual Uni Natwest branch as opposed to the local one where I opened my account about 5 years ago.
The Uni branch were much more helpful and it seems they've got things rolling properly. I can even just post my ucas letter to them.
Great stuff.0 -
Does the Natwest account work with 6th Form A-Level students who have just finished their GCSEs? I am starting 6th form in September so as I am now a student, will I be able to get an account?
I tried the Natwest application form and because I am not 16 for a month I got an error saying that the application wont be processed unless I am 16. Does that mean I can open an account when I turn 16? If so, will I get the interest free overdraft?
Thanks

The banks seem more focused on university/college students than 16 to 18 year olds still at school.
These days post-GCSE but pre-uni students do have money to invest e.g. summer jobs etc.
I am trying to talk m'boy in to opening an account instead of spending it all on computer games!
Are there any good deals out there for the younger students?0 -
It also prompts the question, “can I open more than one student account?”. A couple of years ago there was no problem, but now the banks are tightening up on this - Abbey, HSBC, NatWest and RBS make students agree it’ll be their only account. So multiple-freebie grabbing is getting much more difficult.
Just out of interest...what would happen if i opened more than one account and how would they know??
Thanks!0 -
OK the following message is from NatWest regarding opening the account, its an official one from the press office. If anyone continues to have difficulties after following this send me a PM and i will contact them

1. Proof of your student status such as an offer letter from UCAS. This can
be a conditional offer before A Level results or an unconditional offer
after A Level results.
2. One piece of ID, usually a passport or driving licence.
3. One piece of address verification such as an existing bank statement.
Full details on these requirements can be found at https://www.natwest.com

Thank you very much Martin,
Although that news rather annoys me, (and its nice to know the younger employee got it right) but i will have to go and open my asap now.
Shame i had everything ready and i was turned away. Thanks for askings, and it is good to get a firm answer.
I shall print it out and go see my local branch and try and see what the same lady says when i comment about it. - obviously not in a bad way or anything.
