YORKSHIRELASS said:Valli I have always been a named driver on DSs car insurance but since he bought an automatic last year I have refused to drive his car. He keeps saying that he will give me lessons. I have got to nearly 52 years old without driving an automatic but I should try to have a go in case a situation comes up where I have to drive it.
Work today…I went in yesterday but had to come home as i couldn’t get online and i couldn’t mess with the router because others were in using it. I did wfh though.

Morning all, no storm damage here thankfully. We only lost one slate from the barn during the storm at the weekend. Been luck so far this year. Hope everyone else has been as lucky.
DW done. WM on, hoping to get it out to blow. Tiny blanket for DGD1 finished, now DGD2 wants one! Chickens cleaned out, three hidden eggs found. Soup made for lunch, using leftovers. Cup of tea time now, hugs, mumtoomany.xxx

Also been round trying to clear some hotspots. Really must get over crippling indecision about some items that just keep getting moved about. I keep meaning to post but don't think I should until I've caught up with Fred, and then never get caught up. So, sorry about appearing unfeeling to those who have trauma currently, but I'd rather be in even if uninformed.Spent yesterday cleaning the bathroom sink properly, toothbrush and all, the hob (minging) and sewing-type mending. I always think the mending pile is a couple of hours work but it was five hours yesterday and I'm not sure I'm half way through. Have also spent a fair amount of time mopping up dog pee because Wren doesn't really get the concept that peeing on grass is fine but peeing on carpets isn't fine. We're upping her liquid levels because she doesn't drink enough water and that means more pee which is good for her, but not for the carpets. Back to setting an alarm for every hour then.Dentist this morning for a problem tooth. Problem found, treatment plan identified, £££ again. *sigh* Good thing I actually like the bloke!Better is good enough.10

FWIW HoneyBear; I think its perfectly reasonable to post without reading everyone else's posts.
Have spent a stressful time on the phone to the bank's fraud team. 'no, I haven't been told to lie' 'no, I don't know what I would do if this payment turned out to be fraudulent because it isn't and you're asking me about a hypothetical situation' 'I'm buying a car and I know it's not a fraud because I have the car...on my drive...' 'yes I have met the recipient face-to-face...frequently' 'I got her account number from her chequebook...which I had in my hand...while she sat next to me (actually not strictly true but she was in the same room...)
aargh...
I've now moved more money into a higher-interest saving account...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Afternoon all,
A belated thank you for the lists. I’ve been awol for a couple of days, as we have been visiting DD in the uni city for her birthday. Lovely evening had last night with her, public transport behaved in both directions as well, as a bonus.
I always want to catch up with the thread first before posting - but then my excuse for a brain goes and forgets everything I have read. So from what I have remembered…
Hugs to ASB, just for everything that you are coping with.Valli, I too had managed perfectly well without an automatic, and also passed my test in the era of chokes (even a headlight dip button on the floor, took things in my stride in those days). Last year, for a number of reasons, my replacement car was an automatic, just happened that way. Now I keep my gear changing abilities up to scratch by driving DD’s car.
Round, you have given me a whole new outlook to my understanding of B&B 😳.Flying? I have unpacked my bag and put it away. Apart from getting dinner on the table later, that will be about it for today. Back to work tomorrow, and I am so not looking forward to it. Needs must until that £1million premium bond has my name on it.9 -
- went to Mr A while Mr N was at the gym as my routine (what there is of it) is a bit disrupted this week mainly owing to no uni today and I didn't book Body Pump as I wanted to wave Mr N off on his holiday.
- one load through DW
- started writing what will probably be an epic list of frogs, Toots list, reminders and challenges for the next 3 weeks. I won't bore you with any of it until it happens.
Apart from that, I've been on a round of mindless/distraction activities i.e. kindle, jigsaw, computer solitaire etc. This is the last time I'll be self-indulgent on the matter, but I'm feeling a bit unsettled at our longest separation in 45 years. Yes, it was my choice not to go; yes, he's coming back. And I feel bad even typing this indulgent paragraph as I am well aware that many of you don't have partners for one reason or another and have a much less easy life than I do. Anyway, he's at the airport and I'm going to be active and productive in the next 3 weeks. I actually don't mind time on my own at all - it's just odd and especially as when we booked this particular hol pre-covid, I was all keen to go...ditto when we re-booked before 2nd wave of lockdown......but 3rd booking of somewhere I've been to numerous times and loved just caused my head to pile up barriers. OK enough from me. Actually I will list the proposed challenges:
- I plan not to use any gas, so no central heating and no Aga (the latter is easy with just one of me to feed; we don't often use it these days anyway).
- I want to try as many 20-min 'Wall Pilates' as I can. I'd love to say 'every day for 3 weeks' but there's no point setting myself up to fail.
- I want to give a reasonable spring clean to every room in the house. This may or may not address some of the items on the master list.
Right that is enough procrastination. I finished and emailed the tricky report yesterday and I'm about to do more of the easy one.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.10 -
Oh this cold does not want to shift. I feel so snuffly and very sorry for myself.
But I managed 6.5 hours at the paid stuff and a walk at lunchtime. DH had tea ready when I got in.
Flying has been limited to making our bed.Narco it's only natural to feel unsettled, I would too. It's good to set yourself some challenges though and it's probably not a helpful thing to say but the time will fly past.
I think I need DS to give me a driving lesson, he will love that! I think he needs a blood test, not sure why that thought popped up, I need to check that.
Early night for me tonight.9
