Thank you for the helpful suggestions re buying train tickets, kaz. Luckily my goddaughter is in employment and paying for her own, and she didn't seemed particularly fazed by the price, so I'm pretty sure she will not go into debt over this (if I've taught her nothing else in life, I've certainly taught her how to keep track of her spending: she runs a ship that is almost tighter than mine!). I'm fortunate to have a free rail travel pass, courtesy of DH and his many years of working for British Rail, and I can also use my bus pass on local railways and the Metro within the West Midlands, but I haven't actually been on a long-distance train for about 4 years and - like everything else - the prices have sky-rocketed since I last had reason to check them.
Just tried re-arranging the study shelves whilst drinking a cuppa, and it's an improvement but still not quite to my liking.7 -

Two panto muso lodgers decluttered back to their homes, one new one prepped for but she doesn't arrive until tomorrow,so we have the house to ourselves for a little over 24 hours. It's rather nice.Their food cupboard and fridge space sorted by Belovéd while he was making breakfast. We've scored a box of tomatoes, a box of grapes, a packet of cheese biscuits and realised that the bottle of Proseco in the fridge was ours not theirs. Every little helps, and all that. I think we put the Proseco in there for anyone who wanted a Buck's Fizz on Christmas Day - I refuse to waste champagne on it.Shower room cleaned, floor washed, drains dealt with. Double bedroom turned around. WMx3, with an additional rinse and spin for one load because the machine was too full and didn't rinse properly, and the washing line then collapased while I was pegging out the superking duvet cover which helped make the decision to rerinse and spin anyway. Fortunately I'd swept the yard this morning. I've got another load to peg out now but there's a small tortoiseshell cat sitting on me and I don't want to disturb her.Masses of dusting done. Showered. Trimmed hooves. The cordless thiny died on me so I haven't been able to finish vacuuming the stairs. That can wait until tomorrow now.Better is good enough.7

My list for todayGet dressed
Feed the animals
Put the last of the festive decorations in the cupboard as they have been sitting in the living room for the last couple of weeks. DH has agreed to assist with me with this one during the week, as we need to sort the cupboard out.
Make the most of the dry weather and check and clear the guttering. Sleet started just as I got the ladder out so this will be added to next week.
2 loads of laundry, dry in the TD, or hang up to dry. Last load in the TD
Organise uni stuff for next week as lectures start again tomorrow
Help DD to groom her guinea pigs and clip their claws. Guinea pigs were not in the mood to co-operate so will try again during the week.
Check and water the plants.

Evening all
We woke up to a thick covering of snow which was not forecast! The sheep have had extra hay, the fire has had extra logs and we are in complete vegging out by the fire mode watching early episodes of Merlin 🧙♂️. Sold lots of pork already which covers my costs so I am pleased with that.Picky tea of shredded pheasant, wedges, sourdough and veg from allotment friend. See you all on the new thread xx
PS @mu@mumtoomany are you around? X9 -
so today I have
decluttered a six month old ready meal from the freezer which I ate with the two slices of garlic bread that wer ein the fridge. Tomorrow I will be having salmon as I had 1 fillet in the freezer - it's now thawing in the fridge for tomorrow. Managed to squeeze 3 portions of celery soup in to freeze. The offspring came to pick up their washing. DD has found she shares a name with the piste she is skiing on but I was more concerned that she's in 'the forest of bears' - disdavantage of knowing a lot of French especially if I am reading it as opposed to listening to it (and I do miss Mademoiselle) and I scrubbed my bathroom tiles so the bathroom is looking as new (almost) now, after my concerted efforts. Sleeve edge on project 1 knitted; project 2 has had to have about 5 rows taken back *sigh*. Bedding I pegge dout was dry enough to iron so all ironed and finishing off on maiden. Feeling sorry for myself as athlete's foot has decided to put in an appearance (I am a martyr to it; it rears it's ugly head fairly frequently so I will have to go and get cream as I flung the last one as it was well ood)
