I have a lumie alarm light too but have a separate, cheapy, battery, travel alarm clock as well. Partly because we get so many power cuts here I need the back up of a battery system, but also because the lumie alarm sound is sooo shrieky I can’t handle it first thing in the morning! 😂

    It really is Loud 😳!!
This one has a place to put batteries in in case of a power cut so I have done that. Although we've only had one power cut here since moving in I'd rather have it sorted because me and trying to set clock times don't mix well 🤬🤣.

    I've done the ironing ✅

I've cleared out all the things that don't belong in the front room to their actual homes. And things like my make up, hair brush, and nail polish etc which were all over the place 🙈🙈🙈 don't actually have a home. It's too dark in our room being in the loft to do my makeup up there, I also lack side space to put It,  so I brought it all down to do in the kitchen each morning as I'm tidying etc but when the dressing room is done I'll move it up there. For now I've found an empty wicker basket 🧺 and have collected everything into that and put It out of sight. Front room looks tidier for it. ✅

I have hopefully sold a mirror. If so we'll have £85 in cash then. I'm using money made from sales for DIY funds but if there is any left after we've done both rooms I'll put It in my bank to earn some interest as we will need to save for the big jobs after these small ones. (Bathrooms 🛁🚿) Fingers crossed she turns up, one thing decluttered and some money back in our pockets. ✅??

DP has done all the edges of the room upstairs and is now cracking on with painting the main bits. ✅

I'm glad we didn't use that colour for DS room - I think that's why we bought it 🤔 it's quite pink and I don't think it would have looked very nice all over that room with the light that we get there. So it's got a good use now. I'll keep my eye open for cheap second hand rugs I think to use on the laminate we have in both those bedrooms that are being repurposed as the laminate is in okay condition so seems silly to replace and we have a small budget for things like rugs now. DD room definitely needs doing because we ripped out built in wardrobes and the laminate only went up to the wardrobe. So there is big gaps of floorboards and then a sudden start of laminate which looks rubbish. But this is good, I'm being discerning and only doing what absolutely needs doing. So far only one bedroom out of four is getting new flooring! (Eventually) Shame the bathrooms are that awful that we can't just tart them up too 🙈.

Right I've had my lunch so time to hoover and mop then do a quick tidy around my bedroom. Then I'm done for the day with jobs. Well, aside from dinner ....

What are the floorboards like? If they're OK, then take up the laminate and tidy up the floorboards. You can colourwash them with diluted paint (I like to use the same colour as the walls) and if you're really feeling keen you can then seal with floor varnish. And then use rugs strategically - like by the bed.

Unsure at the moment as we've not lifted the laminate .There are big drafts coming through the bits we can see. If we can seal them that could be a good option 😃.

If they're in reasonably good condition but just shrunk with gaps, you can caulk between them with papier mache then give them a quick sand before painting. If some need taking up and replacing, you can shove loft insulation under them. It's a question of locating the draughts. If you have boards, you may find that fixing the floors is cheaper than installing new flooring over them.

Yep, I couldn't believe the cost of flooring in the last house I was so annoyed at still paying that loan when we'd moved here 🫣 so I'm very loathe to take on a debt for the house aside from the extension 🥴 which lets face it is bad enough 🤣.

Well I have finished for the day. Not exactly finished all the jobs but my foot says no more. I'm listening (for once). I managed to strip my bed. Change it and dust my room. Hoping this helps with my allergies that have been playing up the last few days. Our room seems to get super dusty for some reason, I only did it last week. DP is upstairs still painting. I did offer to take over when I was done but he said no way I needed to go rest my foot and leg 🥰 so I am. He's doing one thick enough coat all the way round so he doesn't need to do two. And it's the textured wallpaper...hence why I've cleaned so much and done so many jobs in the time he's done one box room 👀😬.
The house feels cleaner, calmer for things finding their home again and I also may have made a space for the Xmas tree. 🎄
    Is it too soon? 😃🎄.

DP found an old phone of mine earlier. We managed to charge it and switch it on, lots of old pics on there from three or four years ago. Made me only cry a little rather than floods ... perhaps I'm slowly getting better at seeing pics of DS2. ❤️

I've sent to recycling/ CS bags today 20 odd items. Many of them socks. DP seems to like to collect socks with holes. He was a little cross I threw them in the rag bag 🤔🤣 he said it wasn't Christmas yet so he had to keep them going. I told him he had at least seven pairs in there without holes in so he can work his way through those.
Lots of paperwork has left our house this weekend, including a tonne of paperwork on DP divorce. It was bitter and involved thousands and thousands of pounds spent for no good outcome for DP he was utterly fleeced as his solicitor was absolutely rubbish. Every time we see it we feel angry. So we've allowed it to go. Released to paperwork heaven... Or hell. Also a tonne of old bank statements he had. I did all this for myself when we moved. But it seems DP said he did his and just put It all back in the filing cabinet 😏!

I'm going to have a cup of tea and browse through P1nterest for some dressing room inspiration ☺️ and then I suppose I ought do the dinner. No show so far for the lady buying the mirror which is annoying as I've brought it downstairs!

  • The mirror sold 💰
Then I decided to look for a replacement one. Found one which I'm collecting later 💸 I got rid of a wall mirror and wanted a full length one which I found close by to me. I'll use the money I just made and I have £5 left. 💰
The room is done! It is looking very grey at the moment which I'm a bit worried about 😬 I didn't want grey. Will see how it is in the morning.

I made a shepherd's pie. Have a spare one to go in the freezer too. Although I need to make mash for that. Used up all the onions, potatoes and peppers ready for our shop tomorrow.
I have put a Christmas tree up too 🤔🫣. No lights or anything yet. Just the tree. That took long enough. I did it whilst the dinner was cooking so was trying to multitask a little too much and getting very confused with cleaning as I go, cooking, and building a tree 😆. After dinner I will collect the mirror then I'm showering and placing myself in front of the TV for the evening to flake. Thank goodness it's a later start tomorrow!

I am exhausted reading how you have whizzed through the repurposing and decorating of the rooms.  Phew!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Morning all, @watty1 I was exhausted by the end of yesterday and also today 🫣😆.
Thankfully a short day at work today.
DP is working but will be doing last minute revision of questions that might come up in his interview tomorrow..I should think he's nervous even though he knows most people on the team and one of the interviewers already. Apparently only two have gone for the job but as both are internal applicants the other one could be a good fit too. DP was up at about 3am with his brain full of good answers but I think they'd gone by the time he went to write them into his phone.

Dressing room - The paint has dried very greige but more grey than beige. I'm not very pleased with it 🫣 thankfully I have enough paint in the garage from leftover projects to probably be able to choose a different one and do the room again. As it's the box room it shouldn't need too much paint and I found a nearly full tin (felt like it anyway) of pink 😃....so...watch this space (on Wednesday).

I want to get to work early today to see if I can collect my herbal medicine prescription. I'm unsure of the hours they're open but I have missed them a few times. I think they're open when I'm in class 😏🤔. So I'll try this morning and this afternoon if that fails as I start late and finish early.

Food shop is due this morning so DP will hopefully take that in ok and we're hoping it doesn't clash with a teams call. I couldn't find a button to click to change the delivery on prime 🤔 I'm sure there must have been one but I couldn't see it. It's not set up like Mr M's own Website.

I'm unsure if today will be a NSD. I might buy food at work. I don't have much in this morning. But I'll scout around and see what I can find before making that decision. If nothing in, it will be a LSD at less than £3.
