So pleased you like your new room!

My decorator has approved my paint choices, and ordered the paint. He's all prepped, so it'll be going on tomorrow. There are 11 doors, so it'll take him a while...

@greenbee 11 doors! I hate doors! I painted the doors in my last house, 3 with glass and the rest (7) were just wood. It took me months 🫠😩 I swore off painting around that time actually. 🙃🙂 I hope your doors turn out lovely I do think they make a big difference. Mine are yet to be done.....last house I did them all pink or green 🤪 they got buyers attention when I went to sell haha.

I was SO happy I heard about these right before I was due to drive in tomorrow (DP has to take our car for team meetings or something so I'm using DD one 😃!)
  • Battery went dead on the laptop as I turned it on..think the universe is saying, DFW rest. You've done enough today 🤣 so I listened. TV on, I'm under a big cuddly blanket and will just chill.

I'm just relieved I'm not painting them! He'll spray them, as given the type of door they are it works better. And is quicker (and therefore cheaper!). So from the hall and landing they will all be green, but on the inside each door is the colour of the woodwork in the room it faces. So far three blue (all different blues), one yellow, one taupe, one a greenish neutral, one an off-white.

It's a very boring 1980s house that's been (badly) extended in the 2020s and needs character adding. It was all grey when I moved in. Floors, walls, fitted wardrobes, lampshades, tiles... very, very depressing!
  • I made the effort for a mini roast, literally mini potatoes chucked in the oven with herbs and oil and seasoning. Alongside beetroot roasted in foil and some broccoli and carrots. My body was craving some veg after pizza and Chinese takeaway.

I'm a little peeved, as is DD, she posted a story on SM as she was excited to turn the spare room into a dressing room and DS old room into a temporary cinema room for her (another sitting room). We've all been really up and down since DS went, he's totally ignored all attempts at contact from DD as well as myself. Anyway her step sister (my ex's old gf - who passed away - daughter) said it was in bad taste and unbelievable and that I should be keeping his room empty until he is at least 18- regardless of whether he returns or not. I'm truly gobsmacked that once again we've all come out as the bad people in this. It's unbelievable really. My plan was to paint it a dark green/ blue - the colours DS himself wanted(!!!) and stick a sofa bed in there with a cupboard and TV on top. That was the extent of the plan for cinema room. Maybe a rug 🤔 we didn't need it for DP office. That was so my darling son could return whenever he wanted to (I indeed hope he will! I miss him like crazy!) and I could put new furniture in for him if he came back, I cannot leave it like a shrine, a piece of my heart breaks every time I see it empty, lifeless and devoid of my son and his stuff. I thought it a good idea to give it a purpose and allow DD to use it. She was so excited. And now we're all left feeling deflated. Once again. So fed up of these highs and lows.
    We will continue.
I doubt step sis will be getting an invite now when it is done. I had plans for DD to invite her as she felt pushed out when ex moved on to his current gf. But honestly I'm so done with anything connected to my ex (aside from my children obviously) ...ugh sorry I needed a rant dear diary....

DP has moved everything into his new office this afternoon that he wants. I will start on the emptying process now of DS room. There is still an old mattress that I was going to replace for him anyway and a few other bits. Then I'll carry on with our plans which had perked me up prior to this. I'll give DD a room to use by Christmas I reckon. It doesn't need very much aside from paint (already had the base coat), some curtains and the sofa moving up - sofa is currently squeezed into the extension. Why is it three other rooms are always impacted when you do DIY aside from one you're doing up 🤔🙈.
DP and DD have gone off to the gym. I'm going to sit and rest for a bit before doing the dishwasher and sorting piles of clothes out.

Ignore everyone else and make the house a home for you. If DS decides to come back you can redo his room, but it's not a shrine. It's room in the house to be used.

I have Egyptian Cotton on the woodwork and radiators in my bedroom, and natural calico on the walls. They work really well together. Mostly I've got lighter walls and darker woodwork as it seems to work well for me. It's going to be SO nice when this bit is done and I can start getting things straight. There's a bit left to be done in the big ensuite, as the bath panel coming out caused a lot of mess, and it can't be fixed until the bath panel is back on. The decorator will fit it in sometime if he has a cancellation/spare time. I'm not going to ruin the effect of his work by doing it myself!

It will be so worth it when it's all done and you can just chill and enjoy it!
