New office sounds like it will soon be up and running.   Great idea to reuse cupboard just now and save getting new stuff

    Hope your back improves

  • I've just put the paint brush down for the day. I could barely move earlier but after a quick trip to a pharmacy I got some cocodamol  and within an hour I was up a ladder painting 🫣😆. DP chose the colour and it is a lovely rich colour. The colour is on, just the white picture rails and woodwork to do. It is SO dark compared to before so every bit I've missed is so visible. Ugh! I've been over it twice and touched up bits a third time....I'm literally out of paint now so I'm hoping I don't have much more to do in the morning. I've kept the dregs. It got too dark for me to be able to tell if anything was patchy plus you start to go colour blind after a while 🤣.

I've a new curtain rail to go up tomorrow if we get time (cheap plastic tracks) and DP removed the horrid dusty blinds that were up 🙌🏻 he was refusing to, but after seeing how clean everything looked with a bit of paint on he soon changed his mind and ripped them down 😁. We might get privacy film still to cover the lower half of the windows.... I'm put off by a neighbour on the street who has them and it's all falling down and looks dirty and tacky but I've also seen good examples of it done where it looks good.

Got curtains I bought cheap that have no where to go so that's sorted and ready to go up once paint is done tomorrow....and DP is collecting DD right now and then a filing cabinet we found cheap on FB at lunch 👏🏻. We are hopeful that we will be able to move him in tomorrow...if not tomorrow possibly Monday/ Tuesday. Thankfully it's not a big room. I can't quite believe we had it as a main living room with big sofas in now. No wonder it felt so small...it's just about big enough for his desk and the smallest sofa we have I think (hope).

We definitely need new carpet or flooring as I managed to be my usual clumsy self and got paint all over the floor 🤦🏻‍♀️😁.

Takeaway tonight because I'm too tired for anything other than a shower and PJ's, TV, ...and eating right now. Plus I earned it 🤣.

Hopefully the paintwork will look good in the morning. Well done on getting it done so quickly.

I use privacy blinds in most rooms during the summer (good for filtering out bright sunlight too), and have thermal blinds under the curtains in winter! I'm a big fan of layers at the windows. If you don't want film or nets, then making lightweight curtains out of proper cotton muslin can be a lot nice than synthetic voiles. But work out what would work best with the look you're going for.

Do you know what the floor is like under the carpet? If it's boards then maybe you could just lift the carpet, clean it up and put a big rug down - at least for now.

On cocodamol I feel my old self. 🤣 I had forgotten what it's like to have no pain. It's funny how you just get used to low level pain all day long and live with it. Feeling nice and chilled too because of it.

Privacy blinds, I will look these up.
I thought of voiles but DP was against this look and I was trying to not take over as it's his room mostly 🙈.
Under the carpet is underlay, then more underlay, then hardboard and then foil and something else. We tried to get under it all before and gave up there were so many layers 😱😳! It has been carpet cleaned (prior to me getting paint on it) but it has burns all over it from the fireplace. Definitely needs some more investigation before we decide what to do with it. Cheap as possible is my goal though for the whole room (house ) from now on!
