It definetely does sound like a good investment I couldn't agree more...I just hope there is enough wiggle room should you require it.

It's frightening how easy it is to spend that kind of money but it does sound like a good investment for you, especially if it makes that house work for you for the next few years.
DS 1 and exH will be paying for it for the next three years 😉 so that's why we decided to just go ahead and do it. We can remortgage then if need to and put into the main mortgage. I need somewhere to house DS so it seems sensible to spend the money in the actual house rather than on a garage conversion.
I'm really excited now. And it sounds like it will be done quite quickly and be a massive improvement on the lean to we currently have as it's an actual extension rather than conservatory.

Sounds like a good, pragmatic and life enhancing plan. I’m impressed by how well organised you will be structuring your finances for it as well 😊

Just catching up on your diary. Sounds like you've given evertything loads of thought and worked out the best solution for you all as a family. It can certainly nearly drive you mad trying to make the right decision, going round and round in cirlcles with all the possibles and the figures for each option. But it sounds like you have done it. It will be a big relief now knowing its all organised, and the fact they can getting going relatively quickly it fabulous. It will be so nice to have  the home you need with that extra space. Well done for working out all the finances and organising the build. We are still thinking about doing an extension ~ for 6 years now!!!!

Ah thanks all. After signing on the dotted line I felt relieved I didn't need to stress any more. I've read hundreds of reviews online and I know a few people personally to have used them and even the architect said he's good and would give a good price. We actually got another £870 knocked off today but that is because I said I didn't want the floor doing - we need to do all the downstairs as one big room. It will be great when done. As it stands we have a 10x11ft 'snug' we can't even call it a living room it's so small and a kitchen/ diner which isn't huge and the lean to that is falling down. We knew we'd have to extend, every other house on the street has done the same so we should have no issues I hope.

I'm going through finances and this is how I will try to do it

Option 1 we get loan from bank at lower rate than than the one we signed up for and pay car loan off with isa (@11.9% currently) and pay rest of Isa towards extension.

Option 2 we can't get loan from bank for whatever reason I use Isa to pay half extension build in cash and we leave car loan as is for now and look in future to refinance and we only have £25k on the new loan and give it six months and look to refinance all again.

At least build is done by Xmas as DS has said he might be allowed to leave early with his resettlement so I need to have something ready for him from Early next year - worst case scenario they keep him in for that whole year and he should be out by Xmas (it sounds like he's in prison he's not he's in the army 😆).

Right off to chill for a bit and tweak budget some more. I live such a thrilling life 😆😁

Morning all, up bright and early and ready for work. Didn't sleep too badly last night but I think I've got into a bad habit with sleep of waking so now I'm still waking even when I'm not having hot flashes etc ...I wonder how I retrain myself to sleep better 🤔😆.
Two days left at work then I really do need an R&R day as the last few weekends and days off have been very busy with mum stuff, house stuff and just stuff for everyone else. I cannot give from an empty cup ...and mine needs refilling right now.
Doc next week so hopefully they can help. Am a bit worried about side effects from hrt though as I could never take birth control because of side effects I used to have, am assuming these might be similar especially after hearing some of the women at work talking about theirs and issues they're having. I'm putting it out to the universe I get on well with it and it helps me ....

Won't be a nsd I was too tired to make lunch so I'll be grabbing something on the go, will make sure it's under £4 though so that's ok. I've plenty of pocket money left for the month and we're almost half way through now.

It's gone really cold out here just as all the daffs were blooming and other spring flowers coming up I hope they don't die off with the cold. I love seeing them all on my daily walks and drives.

Work today is emotionally draining usually I'm putting on my big spiritual shield so I don't take anything on and I will ground before and during work. I've found a great way to listen and empathise without giving all my energy to this group now but when I'm tired I am not as aware that I'm leaking out my energy. I swear some of these people are just energy vampires and thrive on drama. As lovely as they are they're in trauma mode a lot and don't know how to refill their own energy without stealing others. I am trying to help but sadly they don't know how to hear me/ don't want to.

At least I'm not worried about Friday any more I used to have a horrible headache and knot in my stomach by this point in the week but that seems to have dissolved slowly over the last couple of weeks as my body realises the drama and danger are removed. One of the students from that old group was suspended for making a threat to someone's life. They're back already and have become even worse. I'm thankful every time I see them I'm not responsible for them any more 🙏🏻.

Got plans to get my EF up over the next couple of months and also my MOP as I will still be carrying on with those so that when we remortgage we have the option to put this new loan into it and still have a good LTV. I think right now we have a 55% share of the house something like that. With the new extension it should be more like 66-70% especially if we continue to OP.

DP is loving his job and has been thanked by top bosses in the business for his input so far (he's developed programmes/apps for the entire business) and I feel he'll progress quickly there if he carries on. I wish (am a little envious) I loved my job as much but I'm much happier now so no plans to jump ship any time soon... (Big change from if you'd asked me this last month 😁🙏🏻).

Righty-ho, work! Have a good day all.

Just caught up.   Sounds like a great decision/solution for you and exciting that the house is becoming the home you need.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Thanks Watty it definitely is becoming what we envisioned when we first wandered around it. I think we had the vision others lacked with it hence the good price we got with it.

Work is going ok. I am so tired though I'm really struggling to concentrate at all. I got praised from a big boss here though as they decided to sit in and observe. I was grateful it was praise for encouraging and perseverance with students as honestly I feel like I yawned far too much (albeit slyly) and probably looked just as bored discussing hyperbole, metaphors and onomatopoeia as much as the students did 🙄🫣 (thank god for spell check on that one).

I love the positive community on here and even though some of us use our diaries to vent, and go through options and weigh things up good and bad and umm and ahh I love that most people have your back when you make a decision for you and your family after using the diary as thinking space. I would just like to add to this, please do not message me if all you'd like to do is tell me I'm wrong and am (basically in not so many words) being stupid. You probably won't like my response. 'nuff said.

Right I'm off to read my book. I've had a wander to town and picked up a cheap meal deal £3.60 paid for from PM and managed to miss the rain showers as they finished as I left and started again when I got back! Great timing.
