Sadly that's not expensive for a hair appointment now. And it seems to be getting more and more common to ask for deposits as people don't cancel and no shows are costing a fortune.

As for the diet, I am mostly vegan, and eat very little that has gluten in it. And that's not down to making an effort, it's just the way I prefer to eat. I eat a lot of tray bakes that are vegetable and pulse based with lots of spices, tofu, falafels etc. I batch cook and freeze pulses so always have a selection of lentils (green, brown, black), peas (red fox carlin, black badger carlin, flamigo, chickpeas), beans (black, borlotti, cannellini, flageolet, black eye, kidney, butter) in the freezer and try to have at least two different ones each day. Soups, roast veggies, salads etc are all good. Something like Rukmini Iyer's Green Roasting Tin might help  (I usually leave out the carbs as it reduces the cooking times and I do better with lower carbs anyway). There's also Hugh F-W 'How to eat 30 plants a week', and this has also been recommended recently: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Happy-Inside-Cookbook-Friendly-Processed/dp/106855570X

I found it much easier to eat differently than to try to find alternatives to 'normal' options (I eat the occasional bit of german/scandi-style rye bread, the stuff that comes vacuum packed, but don't generally try to use it as a replacement for ordinary bread. But eating out can sometimes be a challenge, so you do need to pick your location carefully. Salads are often the best option.

Last week my DD1 cut my hair - it was too long that it was so knotty by the end of the day.  She just did a straight line across, and as I wear it up most of the time it didn't matter if it wasn't perfect.  Like you I am shocked at the price of a haircut and just cant bring myself to pay that kind of money.

With the diet, would going to vegetarian rather than vegan give you any more options.  That way you wouldn't be eating meat, but maybe eggs could go back into the diet.

  • @greenbee you're not serious are you 😳😯 that's like over half a day worked for me to earn that money to pay for it. I think I better find a home hairdresser as that hopefully would be cheaper.
Your diet sounds much like mine. Only when you're out and about there seems to be nothing like our home cooked meals. I really struggle with it and feel so alienated and depressed by it. Eating out used to be one of my fave things to do - I don't really drink or do much else out the house so meeting up with friends for lunch or going out with the kids or DP was our excursions. Which I did used to enjoy. I actually get anxiety now at the thought of the menu having zilch on it for me aside from chips and salad. I will check that link out thank you 🙏🏻

I have added eggs in to an extent - in ready made stuff. Dairy I have intolerance too, have since I was a child so have to be careful with that too. It's so depressing. Ugh.

And the haircut....I'm expecting a lot from my appointment 😆 I hope I'm not disappointed. I used to cut my hair myself but I want it shorter again with layers because I can't bear the hot flushes it causes when it is on my neck all day -my hair is quite thick and I have a lot of it so it feels like I've got a warm woolly scarf on all day and I end up having to throw it up into a nan bun all the time 😂 so I'm going to attempt to get a style this time...a shortish one!

  • Is it worth checking if the local college has a salon, mine does CBD for £10 with a third year student.  I have never been brave enough to try it.

I used to use the college salon where I lived before and it was very hit and miss 🙈 it put me off a bit. The beauty treatments although again hit and miss with how good a student is, I am more likely to try as it's not permanent 😆

  • I once tried a college 3rd year waxing … ouch
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Absolutely exhausting day. Teenage dramas all bloody day. My children are angels compared to some. And I am feeling eternally grateful for that. (Even when they were at their worst!)

I walked home too in the pouring rain in my DMs that aren't quite broken in still after having walked 10k+ steps at work already- have one blister 😖. However the walk in the rain was nice, and the lights from people's houses who've decorated already chilled me out so another grateful 🙏🏻

I nearly sat straight down with a cuppa but knew that was dangerous and I might not get back up 🤣 so spent twenty minutes prepping dinner and am now sat down with tofu in air fryer and veg chopped and ready for frying in the wok. Rice thankfully is leftover from last night just need to re-heat. Grateful for that and having the foresight to just get on and do it as I'm hungry and I am very tired. 🙏🏻

DP not home until tomorrow, he's arrived safely in his destination wherever that is (he's told me three times & I've forgotten so I can't ask again 🙈🤣). 🙏🏻

All caught up on emails my phone is due this weekend yay! Don't have to wait a whole week... 😃🙏🏻 and banking done and thought I'd pop on here. NSD today so far but I do need to order a phone case and screen protector so might do that in a bit. Depends how long this battery holds out as it's nearly dead and takes all night to faff with cables to get it just right so it charges and then I daren't touch it until morning again 🤣 it's definitely a good way to limit screen time though lol.

I have some beauty bits arrived that I ordered with my pocket money and it's come just in time for a much needed pamper and quiet evening on my own. I shall eat, shower, take a herbal tea up and go and lay on my bed with my new heated eye mask and some nice music for a chill.

Ps I watched My Fair Lady the other day- like three days ago and I still have one song stuck in my head! It woke me up last night 😳 how do you get rid of them!!
All I want is a room somewhere
Far away from the cold night air
    With one enormous chair
Oh, wouldn't it be loverly? Raaa get out my head 🤣 it's the only verse I know too so it is on repeat 🤣
