    ⭐My rambling savings Diary ~⭐
  • Aw thank you all, it is lovely and i'm glad I broke my nsd for it.
This morning has been interesting, I missed three alarms as they weren't loud enough :joy: then DS left without DD and she's gone stomping off after him, especially as she sat and waited for him - he didn't even say goodbye, he put his shoes on and snuck out. Good luck DS she looked like she was going to give you a telling off  Thank goodness I made all lunches last night so that was one less stress this morning.

Thursday is an easy-ish day, bit boring but okay. Not looking forward to tomorrow.
DP is off to a conference until tomorrow so walking into work and back home. Hate the walk home as it's all up hill, but quite like the walk in, I go through the park usually and it's a nice walk.
Need to pop to the shops, am out of tea bags so am caffeine deficient this morning- morning tea was chamomile, doesn't quite hit the same spot  so need to get some more tea asap.
Right suppose I ought to get off, tea is drunk, kids are gone, and I fancy a slow walk in rather than my usual oh-my-god-I-left-too-late pace.
    MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. May 1st, £116, 123, June 1st, £115,536, New mortgage added for extension- £165,000 July 1st!

  • As I'd already broken my nsd (well I will - on the way home- tea bags!) I thought I'd come to the work canteen and grab a fizzy drink and eat my lunch here. Only £1.10 (omg was my face at the price though I remember when they were like 10p!)
    Anyway 🤣
Moving on ....must stop giving my age away in the 'in my day' game ...
I've had another £45 confirmed for payout in Qu1dco.
I have left it there though as the last time I had a payout was ages ago. I cashed out £32 the other day, and am waiting for it to hit my bank account before claiming the other £45. I'm not sure I have the correct bank account connected to it 😬 and as I couldn't remember my password I couldn't check it. So will just wait patiently for it to arrive. Hopefully into my current account. 🤞🏻
Nearly fell over several times this morning because of Ice. One lady told me I was walking like a ballerina. I'll take that, it sounds graceful because in my head I felt like a penguin shuffling along rather than graceful 🤣.
Hopefully it will have gone by home time rather than got worse. Will pop to the co-op rather than big SM for the tea as I already have a heavy bag on me don't want the temptation to pick up much else other than what I need.

Dont knock penguins’ walking style - they’ve got walking on ice down to perfection 😊 And I think I have seen it as official advice from somewhere (HSE? NHS?) that when it’s icy, you *should* walk like a penguin - weight forward on the front of your feet, arms free to flipper …. sorry, sorry … 😂 to adjust your balance 😊

It’s lovely to hear how the new household routine is becoming established with your new working pattern. The comments about DS and DD this morning made me smile. Why did he leave her behind and sneak off?

Canny thought to wait for the first lot of quidc0 to turn up before requesting the next one … 🤞 that it appears in the right account!

Definitely official advice from somewhere to walk like a penguin. Luckily enough I have a lovely penguin 🐧 cardigan too!

  • Oh !!! well I hadn't heard that before but I was definitely walking like it, although when the lady saw me I think I was slip-sliding and using my arms to balance and probably did look like I was dancing :joy: as soon as my balance was restored I returned to my little penguin shuffle haha :joy:

Well, @KajiKita DS has just returned home and I asked him why he ran off and he said it was because his sister was being horrible and moaning about how long he was taking and he didn't want to hear her moaning all the way to school. :joy: he ran off by all accounts as DD ran after him, seconds after he snuck out, and she couldn't catch up to him (tbf he is almost 6ft and she is 5'5ish so his legs are way longer, he didn't really have to do much running to outpace her :joy: )

I am home, I have my very first real cup of tea in my hand not a nonsense herbal tea with no caffeine (have felt deficient all day, oops probably means I shouldn't drink so much)....It's not my usual brand- clipper- I popped into a convenience shop which was just outside work, meaning I didn't need to walk 5-10 minutes out of my way, and then the same back again to get to where I needed to be to go home. And it was only £1.95 spent, including lunch spends of £1.10 I am happy with that!

Dinner was an after thought really, kids have the pies I bought with chips. I won't eat it. Booooo. Sad about it but also can't be bothered making an alternative pie right now, so I have left over ratatouille and rice, so dinner is lovely and easy. DP will be fed and watered wherever he is this evening and he will be home tomorrow.

Today at work we had to do budgets with students - fake ones- which I thought was a fab idea and I wish I had been taught it myself. They learned about the 50-30-20 rule and a few questions were asked which the teacher couldn't answer. Not sure if it was because teacher was quite young themselves, but I had the answers thankfully...
They (students) weren't impressed, my response was well, you either pay attention now or you you'll most likely end up in debt and then want to know (yeh that was me!) Up to you if you want to learn the easy or hard way....
    They weren't interested, sigh.
I did have enough enthusiasm for us all though :joy: as I am sure any MSE'r would haha.
The teacher says, what happens though if you lose your job and you don't have an emergency fund in place?
A resounding......I'll go on the dole, and i'd like to stay on it.
And what happens if you lose your house?
Why would I? Two responded...we'll go get a council house as soon as we can.
I think I had the wrong audience sadly for my enthusiasm

I've got a couple of things I need to do this evening:
    1. Meal plan for next month, and want to add a couple of new recipes that KK has kindly sent me  will find some easy-ish ones, I am still struggling with this working mum lark of washing, housework, lunches as well as trying to make interesting dinners.
    2. book a shopping delivery for Saturday or very early Sunday (DP's parents will be here Sunday afternoon)
    3. one last check of next month's budget as the new month is nearly here (and DP has just been paid)
    4. Do lunches for tomorrow
    5.  try and get an early night, I didn't sleep very well last night.
    6. I need to write a letter too to say I am happy for a work reference to release info about me having worked there. For some reason they won't respond to the reference sent by new employer without that, problem is I don't even know who they have asked as they mentioned 2 or 3 companies going back a long time. I will have to make it as generic as possible and also make sure to put married and maiden name on it otherwise it probably won't match up to old employer's records. I am not yet official at work it seems!

Got 5% off the s'burys shop so nearly a tenner but shop was still £160. Did get bulk pasta, chickpeas and rice though in that so hopefully our new food budget will see us through comfortably to the next month without going over. Still got bits on the list to do but at least the meal plan is done and the shop (biggest jobs).

  • I bought a phone! I have had it with the one I am using and have just been chatting with DS1 - the phone he has put aside for me wasn't holding charge, it had been unused for too long and was old anyway.
I have spent an hour or so dithering with my finger poised on "order now" over such a big purchase but I found a black friday deal and a 5% discount via one of my apps 😬 read hundreds of reviews and blogs about it, I opted for a 30 day free interest on k1arna and will have to find the money to pay for it. I am about to lose my current one forever as it isn't even charging properly any more so had to be done but still feeling a bit sick about such a big purchase. Feel like money just slips through my fingers sometimes!

Am thinking the £100 I had budgeted for the EF this month can go towards it, then next month's pay I will also put the £100 EF towards it and I still need £180 more. I will either find it in the budget or have to take it from the EF or the SBF. It kinda was an emergency anyway, I need my phone as I don't have a landline any more, okay, I am done explaining myself to myself and will put this to bed now. :joy: It is done, and I will look forward to receiving it (need current phone to last another 12 days as that's when it will be shipped!)

Right off to bed before I can spend any more money today :hushed: with grocery spends that is around £550 spent this evening!!

A phone is a critical bit of kit. I’m glad you are keeping yourself safe with a new one. With a fair wind you won’t need to think about it again for several years. Could DP contribute to some of it as part of your Christmas present?
