Oh DFW, I am so very sorry and sending you the biggest hug. They become such a huge part of your life and it's so hard letting them go. But you have given him a great life and lots of love, fun and happiness. I will be thinking about you all today, take care xx1

ahhh Poor FLD he is a good age and you have done what you can, sometimes the kindest thing to do is to let them go. Wishing warm hugs and my sympathies. HotdogX1

Thank you all 🙏🏼 I appreciate every single well wish. That was one of the hardest things to do ever because my kids emotions were involved as well as mine.
The kids came home from school after I rang the school trying to hold back tears (failed I cried). Asked if they could be sent home together on their own as I didn't want to leave the dog. They came back. DS very angry- he struggles to communicate his emotions and displays anger when really he's upset. This was making DD distraught though so I had to explain to her we all grieve differently. Told them what the vet had said and felt they handled it very grown up like. They both agreed he had slowed down a lot, was going blind and deaf and didn't have the best quality of life like he use to have. And felt it was also kind at this point. I was very proud of them for thinking this because I know how hard it is. I'm glad I made the decision already though so they didn't have to feel the guilt like I do. In their minds I had already given the decision they could just agree with it no blame to be had on their part.
I gave each child an hour or so to say goodbye separately in their bedrooms in private. I sat downstairs twiddling thumbs and not knowing what to do wanting to hug everyone and make it okay. Then we brought him down and we all sat with him for a while. He was struggling a lot at the end. I think he would have actually gone naturally had we left him but he was in discomfort so I'm glad we didn't.
Half hour before the appointment we popped him in his basket on my bike and took a slow walk down to the vets. He hung his head over watching the sky and leaves falling - looking between us all and the floor and everything else going on but he had no energy. I think all of us being there was a comfort to him. Both children stayed in the room with me for the appointment. I gave them choice considering their age. The vet hadn't even administered half the poison and he'd slipped away. He was ready and It was clearly his time. We cried a bucket of tears between DD and I. DS stood up straight and eyes watering he held back his tears and brushed me off when I tried to comfort him. Being 15 is tough I remember so left him be... I stopped at subway on the way back and got sugar. Cookies and drinks. I think DD had cried herself into shock and ds was hungry. They considered FLD to be their sibling having grown up with him since they were tiny.
We've said our goodbyes. I found it timely that DP had to be away today and FLD decided that today was a good day to say goodnight for now....it was like DC and myself were meant to be the ones with him. Us three have been the ones with him through his whole short journey on this earth and it was like it was divinely supposed to be that way.
The cost is going to be horrendous. No idea how to fund it aside from EF. DD was not happy about burying him in case we move and left him she was near on hysterical at that mention so I relented and opted for crem and paw prints and goodness knows what else. When your child is grieving you'll be willing to do almost anything to calm them.
People without pets probably don't understand but it feels like I've lost a child today one that I've had for twelve and a half years and the kids feel like they've lost their sibling. Even DS1 was choking up when I told him earlier and he hasn't lived at home for a few years now.
Anyway, I need paracetamol I've got a raging headache now. But thank you all 🙏🏼MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06.
