You are sounding a lot more positive today 😊
The online business you had before - no possibility of starting that up again?

    KK
I sold through all my stock. I didn't much fancy getting into debt again to buy more after I had spent the profit, but there is always a possibility. Covid kind of put an end to it as did lots and lots of cheap places like temu and suchlike popping up. I don't mind too much I think it had it's run and I was okay to let it go, it served its purpose when the kids were young allowing me to work from home (as well as the rental house I had at the time) and both have gone now, the business and the rental, think that time in life has gone  would you believe it but I feel much more positive about the new job now, and am looking forward to starting. I haven't a clue what I am doing, and am not trained yet but I think it will be different to what I was doing before (in a good way) so I am 100% willing to throw myself in and give it my best shot. (disclaimer I am a woman and I may change my mind at any given moment

NO?! Do you think I ought message them...I had a look on their portal though and they still have my job on there (they reopened it back up with MORE hours for this role) it closes on Friday and I assumed they might want to do all the inductions together so just left it for now until the next lot are hired. I have just persuaded my friend to try for it so I helped her with her CV & cover letter the other day. She didn't want to apply before because the hours weren't enough for her at 24 hours, but the new job opening is 28 which is where she needed to be at oddly enough. Anyway I digress, as I do, I haven't heard yet...hopefully I will start right after half term finishes in a couple of weeks.

There is a logical timeframe / trigger for you to start then 😊
I think I would drop a quick, bright email, just asking for an idea of a start date so you can plan around it. It shows your commitment to the role and means they can’t forget about you 😉😊

  • Found it on their website, emailed HR as that is who I was told would contact me. Be good to have some sort of plans in the diary for it.
I am just half way through your diary KK and see you bought a YNAB book, do you think it's worth the money (I haven't got that far yet if you do say so)...I have paid for YNAB for the year and could do with a bit of extra help, the videos help somewhat but I think I learn better with written instructions.

Well done. I hope they come back to you swiftly.

I found the YNAB book useful for understanding the principles outwith the tool itself that actually drive it, iyswim. I never did buy the YNAB system, though LWAP’s love of it is starting to tip me in that direction. It’s the effort needed to set it up and conflicts within it when spends or income amounts don’t properly synch (that you seem to have struggled with quite a bit) that put me off. I really ought to subscribe though as I am quite certain that I am kidding useful about how effective my budgeting is…. 🙄😉
The book does talk about how inputs are managed in the system, but how helpful it is I’m not sure, as I haven’t used the system.
You could try seeing if you could borrow the book through the local library?

Library is a good idea, we both have cards now too I will have a look!
I struggled massively with YNAB I found that my bank natwest was a pain for synching properly so I have unlinked it now and every few days I just manually input all transactions and I haven't had an issue since. Oddly our joint account for groceries is also natwest and that has never had a problem updating properly on there so I am not understanding why mine was such a pain. Since I unlinked it though it has been behaving and I have added all debts and savings to it. Some I left unlinked because I felt it would work better, some wouldn't link anyway (YBS doesn't link for me) and basically I just had to remember which ones needed manually updating. It is not something you could ever buy and not use some sort of tutorial with and know what you're doing that is for sure
