Removal drama continued….
We finally got away from the house at 10.45 pm on Thursday night and drove to ds and stayed the night with him instead of Dd in our new home town. We left at 5.30 the following morning to drive to new place….so we’d be ready to collect the keys when the monies had transferred. We went straight to the estate agent and picked the keys up about 1.30pm. We arrived at the house at the same time as Dd and family 😄 and enjoyed exploring the place together. We were expecting the removal van mid afternoon so this gave us time to do some of the cleaning ( it needed it and still needs lots more) We finally had a phone call from the removal company saying they would be arriving at 10 pm…..maybe later 😳😡
We refused this as it was far too late….wed have been up until the early hours as they had to put furniture together. They weren’t happy, but we’d been at the old house until nearly 11 the previous night…..we’re up at 5.30am, did journey of over 6 hours then did a LOT of cleaning- we were shattered….plus we couldn’t disturb the neighbours at that time on our 1st night. We stayed the night at dds….im just pleased we had family nearby so we could stay over. A van arrived with some of our things mid morning on Saturday. So much for our things being safe and secure…..they were in a van with another delivery. A 2nd van arrived about 4 hours later. It was gone 9 pm on Saturday evening before they’d finished putting everything up. BUT they’ve lost the fixtures and fittings to a sofa bed, lost the mattress and headboard which forms part of the frame of the bed they’d collected from ds house…..which by the way we’d paid extra for. Various other things are missing…..including the salad box and freezer tray from my fridge freezer 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. They’ve damaged the padded headboard to my bed, the mattress from the sofa bed with the missing fixtures has had something black dripped down it in several places, they’ve chipped ds fish tank cabinet and smashed a glass cockerel which belonged to mil. All I can say is if anybody is thinking of moving steer clear of ‘@ny v@n’
The lady overseeing our removal wasn’t happy and refunded £500 and sent us insurance forms to complete. We had no internet in the house and Dh was trying to complete said insurance form and download photos on his phone…he was getting more and more stressed with it all. Thankfully ds arrived and between them figured the form out. I’m sure they make things more complicated than necessary to put folk off claiming. It’s a matter of waiting to see what happens…..watch this space. We have now unpacked most of the boxes, some have had to be stored in an out building until we extend the kitchen. It’s feeling a little more homely than it did….the cleaning is a work in progress. We just need to put the last week behind us now and enjoy being near the family and the sea 😄😄

We went out on the bus yesterday to explore a nearby town…..we have been many times before whilst visiting Dd. On the way we had a phone call saying the removal driver would contact us to arrange delivery of missing items. We continued on our way waiting for the phone and called to our local town on our way home to eat a sandwich by the harbour….just cos we could 😄👍 We had a phone call and it was said removal man …..not to arrange delivery but to say he was on the drive 😡 by the time we got home there was a mattress dumped on the drive and no sign of the other missing items. I’m not even sure if it’s ds mattress as it’s in a bit of a state….muddy marks all over it 😡
I’ve paid my cc in full this morning and been to do some shopping. It feels good to be getting stocked up again. I’ve also had a morning of doing admin stuff to do with the house move….registered for voting, changed the addresses on my driving license and pension. I actually did most things before I left. I think I’ve done everything now but am bound to forget
.I’ve been on the phone to see when my trike will be ready…about another month. We were told September….they didn’t say which end.
I want to put the oven racks in a cleaning solution overnightJanuary spends - £587.581 -
If you have a dishwasher, put the oven racks in with a daily wash (I put them on top of the mugs), the baked on marks come off with steel wool so easily afterwards.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2 -
Thanks Satchmo. We do have a dishwasher but it won’t fit in the kitchen until after we’ve had the extension sorted, so it’s stored in the conservatory for now. The cooker was awful so I bought a cleaner - the one where you put all the trays in a big bag and cover them in the solution overnight and rinse off the following morning….its come up a treat 😃 It’s beginning to feel like home. I can’t wait to get in the garden.
We had a message from the removal company and they have dropped a mattress off…..it’s supposed to be the one belonging to ds which was collected (and paid extra for) en route. I’m not convinced it’s his…neither is ds 😳 it’s got many more stains than he remembered 😳🤢😳. Still no sign of the headboard which is part of the frame so it can’t be put up anyway.
im planning on hiring a rug doctor machine at some time this week to have a go at cleaning it, along with the mattress of the sofa bed which had muddy drips all down it….no idea where it was stored 🤬 Anyway they've given us £320 back for the losses. It’s nearly £100 for the trays out of the fridge freezer. Now we need to wait for the insurance for damages to come through. Steer clear of @nyv@n folks. We have sent off for the missing fixtures from the bedsettee from the Swedish furniture shop. Hopefully they’ve not changed the design since we bought it. We need to put the moving fiasco behind us now and enjoy our new home. There has been an oyster festival over the weekend so we saw fireworks on Friday and went to a theatre procession at the beach of the blessing of the beasts - it was totally different to anything I’ve seen before. Loved it. We met up with Dd and her friends and went for a drink at somebody’s beach hut then today we went to dds for dinner. We had intended heading back to the oyster festival where they use candles to light oyster shells on the beach but it was pouring down so didn’t bother.
We’re going to try to join some local groups this week as well as cleaning the carpets and mattresses. I think we’ve made the right decision 😄

Sounds like you’ve made the right decision despite the moving fiasco. Happy new home 🥰

Sounds like a very lively place - great choice! Happy new home.
