Milann’s mutterings through retirement

Still plodding here. We did a fair bit of packing up in the small bedroom that the gks use when they come to stay. A friend had given us some ike@ bags that zip and were great for spare quilts and pillows. We decided to nip for more of said bags and they’ve changed the designs to a bigger bag….we did get some but they’re not a patch on the original ones. Dh dismantled the shelving in there. We were going to get the firm to pack for us but when we spoke and gave a virtual tour around the house they offered a hybrid system which will reduce the price for us….so we’re going for that 👍
I had my hair cut this morning which is much easier to control with one arm. £25 spent.

I ended up going out with my best and longest friend and her sister yesterday. I’ll miss my friend more than anyone when we move. I treated them both as they often treat me… a neighbour was working in the pub and when I went to pay she used her staff card saving me £34 which was a lovely surprise.
I went to a knit and natter last night and since Dh has gone with ds to take some things to store in his new house and meet with some builders, I went on the bus. It’s not far but 2 buses. I could start leaving my robotic splint off yesterday but I still wore it whilst I was out. I can crochet a little bit but a few minutes at a time before it hurts my shoulder, so it was definitely more natter than knit for me. 😂
I’ve not been sleeping brilliantly with the splint on and tried sleeping without it last night. I’m not sure it was any better it still woke me up when I moved it. I woke up about 3,30 and gave it up as a bad job and came down at 5 am. I was surprised how quickly I sorted my craft stuff without ds here to interrupt me….i usually only get up at that time when we’re heading on a journey. He carried all the boxes down for me before he went and can carry them back when he’s home tomorrow. I have got rid of some things but at least everything is sorted for its new home.
I ordered new passports a couple of weeks ago and have had a message saying they’re being delivered tomorrow. I’m impressed, I think that’s the fastest I’ve known. I should have been nipping to a friends but she’s coming here instead.
I changed my bank account and it’s switch over day today. I need to spend on the card and wait for some dds to go out and I should hopefully qualify for the £175. I need to figure out how to use the new account. I won’t have the app on my phone but will use my I pad from home. They’ve also sent a little device to use with it…..can’t say I’m happy figuring it all out. I really do not like technology.January spends - £587.585 -
Well it’s all been happening re the move the last few days. We’d had a quote for the removal at the end of the month and they wanted virtually an extra £400 because it was in high demand and theyd have to take on extra drivers from a different area. We put it to the buyers and sellers and the sellers couldn’t make that weekend for all sorts of reasons. So we went back to the removal firm and negotiated a reduction. It will be £150 dearer than the previous weekend but that better than the £400 he’d quoted. Our buyers suddenly decided that there were lots of jobs needing doing so we decided on a reduction in price then their solicitor came back asking us to take an insurance out for them….we told them if they wanted insurance they could use the money from the reduction. We haven’t heard anything back yet so hopefully it’ll all still go through and they don’t pull out. I feel they’re trying to take us for a ride as they sat on the surveyors report for weeks before deciding they needed jobs doing. Had they have come straight back it would have felt better. Apparently it’s a bit of a thing….buyers making demands right near the completion date….
Today we went to a place just over the border of Wales to test drive an electric trike. I had a bike several years ago but didn’t feel confident on it and did a total of 4 miles….dh used it occasionally if he went on a ride by the coast as it folded up to put in the car. Anyway this trike felt good in the showroom. The plan is to use it as a pedal trike but if I feel tired I can revert to using the power. We’re about a 10 minute walk from the coastal path so hopefully will get some good use from it. I’ve joked about getting one for years. I want it to strengthen my legs. After I broke my arm I was having a bath and frightened myself as I couldn’t get out. I was in on my own on one of the very hot evenings. I ended up chilling with a bath sponge as a pillow 😯🤣I couldn’t use my arms to push myself up as I usually do and i didnt have the strength to push with my legs…..I did eventually get out just before Dh came home but I haven’t been in the bath if I’m in on my own.
It’s definitely been a spendy day here 😉January spends - £587.584 -
We have provisionally booked our removal van for next Thursday but our buyers solicitors are still playing silly beggars…..fingers crossed it still happens. We have to let the removal folk know for sure before Tuesday 😯
I am NEVER moving house again. It’s been a nightmare- our solicitor can’t believe the buyers one and the things he’s dreamt up😡
I’ve also had several hospital appointments. My arm is doing ok but I would like it to get a move on so I can lift more. It’s difficult packing with limited use. I have to come back for another appointment which I expected to be in 6-8 weeks but it’s the week after we hopefully move so I’ll be heading back much sooner than I’d anticipated.
It’s been quite a surreal week. My nephew organised a family do at weekend which was lovely I thought I’d be more sad saying bye but I was ok.

They say moving house is on of the most stressful things you can do. Hopefully it will all run smoothly in the end.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping) -.literally have been run over by a bike, mobility scooter and a car - still here 💪1 -
i can't believe it's all come round so quickly. it was so nice of your nephew to arrange a get together, hopefully things will all come together at a gallup

Well we finally moved in. Nightmare doesn’t come close.
The plan was……we’d booked 2 vans and crews to arrive between 8&9 am on 27th August store the vans with all our worldly goods in a secure compound overnight and travel to our new place on 28th. Nothing would be removed from the van. We would travel on 27th and stay at dds and meet them early afternoon once we had completed and collected the keys. They would unpack and we’d live happily ever after unpacking everything at o,ur leisure.
Reality was - we were on the phone until 10.30 asking where the vans were. 1 van turned up about 11.30….they sighed at the amount of ‘stuff’ they had to pack. We kept asking about the 2nd van with no real answer. We had a constant line of phone calls between ourselves and our designated removal lady who was to oversee the move. Van vanishes complete with half our worldly belongings….we were still asking about the 2 nd van at which point we were told it would be back once it had unloaded our belongings into a secure unit. He then said they hadn’t booked enough secure storage so we’d need to pay an extra £1900 as the job was bigger than they’d been told 🤬🤬🤬 if we didn’t pay they couldn’t continue to pack and would deliver only what they’d already packed and leave the rest😳🤬🤬We paid as we had no other option and really felt pressured into it.
I’m currently at ds home back near my old house as I have a hospital appointment re my shoulder after the fall in July. So will be back later 👍

I hope the further update includes a report to trading standards. Poor you
