Watty's Awakening

I didn't go to university and the thought of school reunions fills me with horror, just imagining the amount of one-upmanship that would be going on after over 40 years. I'd rather go to the dentist.

I went to a reunion a couple of years ago. There was surprisingly little one upmanship - lots of laughs over shared memories - but a fair bit of one upmanship re children which was interesting to watch as I do not have children. Bestie from those days finally said out loud that all it showed was that one's children had been bought up well - or - perhaps even badly - but had the drive, passion and what was needed to turn out well. That sort of ended the conversation but I did think she was right.
Am exhausted this morning. WattyDog was barking at someone on the drive at 3 am and I slept badly after he had woken me as I kept thinking I could hear someone. This morning I checked the camera more carefully and it was in fact a delivery driver, delivering the veggies. At 3 AM. Poor chap, must be doing two jobs.

The builder didn't turn up with the stones so I'm guessing he realised the quote has a figure missing. I'm hopeful they will email and say so but ???? Irritating.

Someone I know well in my profession died a couple of days ago whilst on holiday and I feel very discombobulated by her death. At the last meeting we were at together she talked of retirement and succession planning so her employer would manage the transition well to the younger members of her team and how she has been encouraging them to "step up" Tbh she was a complicated character, very forceful and her team had been carrying the weight for sometime - but - I have known her for many years and I put her forward for her role when the board did not want to admit publicly what a mess they were in. I encouraged the board to appoint her and she did a fabulous job for them. I feel her loss both professionally and personally.
On another level she was just a couple of years older than me and, once, over lunch we talked about how we had been left without sufficient pension provision due to failed relationships (but for different reasons) and how we needed to just keep working. Knowing that she had an end game finally in sight and that she never made it has really had a very profound effect on me who has also been thinking over an exit strategy for sometime.

I can totally 'see' why that loss, in such a parallel set of life circumstances to your own, would be so unsettling.
Allow yourself some time to grieve her as a friend and colleague, and then sit with what it might mean to you. You don't have to make any snap decisions, but it might reinforce one particular thought-stream over another.
In the meantime, hugs x
