Thinking of you that is really sad and I can see how it must affect you too. Loosing two friends at exactly the same age I was at the time made me realise my plan for Denmark had to be now and not in 3 to 5 years. It does focus the mind and that is good too.

Thanks all. Sat in the garden yesterday evening with some wine and chatted with VNM. Mortality creeping in for both of us it seems, we are both worried we will not get to enjoy a retirement. The news of colleague has really shaken me. And some of my colleagues given the professional chat.
For us, we are at a crossroads, there are many directions and possibilities but we are now just waiting to see which roads are open and not dead ends.
Planning permission on the barn will go in mid August. I've sent all the reports off for the company now to the potential buyers accountant and am looking for a solicitor. Have made a list of interview questions and selected 3 solicitors to choose from. Tbh one failed to answer their phone so I emailed. One receptionist could not seem to get the grasp that there was no property involved in the sale but the third rang back and left a clear message and emailed. Hmm think 3rd might get the job! VNM's mothers house finally sold, he is just waiting for the last of the paperwork to be sorted. It went for just under half the initial price and made what I thought it might make privately but I had wisely kept quiet. It is a relief for us that the house is sold.
In smaller news, Fell Pony person has done nothing with him for months. So yesterday evening, inspired by the wine, I rang a local person I know and asked her to come and look at him with a view to deciding if he is simply never going to make a riding pony - or - if as I suspect - is just incredibly dim and has not got a clue what is required of him so is responding with violence (he bites on the ground and bucks when ridden). I have a hunch he may actually be a nice pony because Most Handsome and Charming Cob adore him. Person I rang is a producer of young horses, mainly starts posh dressage horses but I have known her in the random way horse people meet at the odd event and cross paths at yards for many years and I am going to see if she will start his education from scratch and see how he does. He is a great companion and I'm not sure I will ride him but he does deserve a good chance at life.
In surprising news, there was a bucket of stones on the step late last night. Ideal for the front drive. Happy with that.

I'm sorry too. Sending hugs. As already said, allow yourself to grieve and make a note of those things that come to mind, whether business-wise or personal. The things that are highlighted as you go through this are a voice in your ear telling you what to prioritise.

What a relief the VNM's mother's house is finally sold … and kinda ironic that you had the value so accurately estimated in your head … I'm glad the 2 of you are aligned in the concerns you have for the future, that should allow the 2 of you to make positive decisions for both of you quite quickly.
Yaay for the bucket of stones being just right. That sounds very promising 😊Love your idea of restarting Fell Pony's education because Most Handsome and Charming Cob adore him and so might be seeing potential in him that hoomans can't … 💖 I hope it goes well for him.

Just read your latest message, what a relief to have the house sold, even if VNM may be disappointed in the price. I read somewhere that we always place a higher value on 'our stuff' than a buyer would, so he's not alone in this.
Here's hoping it clears a little head space for both of you.

Thank you all. It is indeed good news, and, the money arrived in his bank account late last night. He will need to think of somewhere secure for it for now but I can work on that. He didn't have have proper savings accounts until he met me!!

All the accounts have gone to buyers accountant and I'm now researching solicitors - but - running different scenarios through AI I'm now rethinking things.
My health really went downhill and I just wanted the company gone but this has dragged on now for months. We first discussed the potential sale in September last year. Here we are 10 months later and we are now only at sending off final stuff to her accountant and I realise how "stuck" I've been. I've not progressed any projects because I simply have no idea what is happening. After looking at the various scenarios I've played with I'm considering keeping the company but employing additional people. Not building something major but actually moving on the "projects" that have just been held as pending.
No big decisions but I spoke with VNM and was surprised to find that apparently he has been saying this to me for months. He sent me a property in a "better for me" area which had an annex and laid out how that could work as my office and well it really does seem that this could be an option for me.
I think I had become so exasperated by "her dithering's" that I had not thought logically about the outcome but given what the company makes the sale price is actually very cheap. And I would make more over 2 years if I kept it going. All very much food for thought.
