That is an absolute liberty, you don't turn up at work to say you can't do the job you were hired to do then still expect to get paid. Extremely poorly managed by them. You say there are no other 'really good equine practices' in the area but they don't sound really good so maybe worth seeing if any of the others have improved

I think that's another tick in the box for moving. There are lots of good equine practices round here… there have to be given the number of horses, ponies, and donkeys around :)

The way I see it, he wanted to charge you for one and a half visits because they didn't have the correct product in stock. Is that what they call profiteering?

I call it, taking the mick! To not only NOT have the meds you specifically requested, but then to suggest a blood test at an inappropriate time of year as well … Wowsers … 😳🙄

Good points - I will use the profiteering comment and the line you don't turn up to do a job, be unable to do it and expect paying.
I suspect my agreement to take painkillers might mean they want paying but I only did that because equine painkillers seem to be a controlled substance and are used as currency in the equine world since vets realised if they are handed out strictly they get paid to visit,
I told my hacking friend down the road this morning and she did make me laugh when she said "that is the type of !!!!!! service you expect from (insert name of other equine practice in area) not (insert name of one I use)" Feedback I shall also pass on.
Equine dentist told me that the vets are given targets since the practice was taken over by a big corporate company so maybe that was the problem however it seems a new vet has opened up and neighbour is going to try them.
As Greenbee says it is another pointer to the move. This practice was great but Friday's service was awful so having a great vet is no longer on the reasons to stay list.
Drumroll …I mucked out today. All 3 stables. Only lightly but that is the first time since whatever it was started up leading to cardiology investigations. I was so happy to get back to my life.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Is it worth calling the Royal Vet Society @Watty1? I appreciate that they may side with the vet, but it's in their interest to maintain the professional standing of the whole sector. Absolutely appalling. So glad you're happy with mucking out Love Humdinger xx

Personally I would email it to your MP as an illustration of the profiteering and need for ombudsman oversight in the area, now that hedge funds are decimating the sector, and ask them to pass it on to the relevant minister as this Government intends putting in regulation

Great suggestion @Suffolk_lass I will do that. Although I generally consider my local MP to be fairly hopeless having contacted her twice in the past. However her party is not in power at said time and she is having fun exploiting social media at the moment so I will indeed contact her. Also will call RCVS. I am sure they will side with the vet but it occurred to me that the practice is very large, is the only specialist vet hospital in the area and should they manage to do this just one per day that is an extra £26000 per year which is quite significant and given the number of vets they have they could easily do something like this twice a day and it not get picked up.
Shame because the older vets at the practice are fabulous and I have no doubt that they would have called me first to explain the situation. Also CC is well liked by some of the older vets who remember him from surgery - apparently there are two kinds of horses they remember - the absolute angels (CC) - and the opposite end of the spectrum.
