Thank you @Cherryfudge I am taking that vote 😀
@greenbee shall I PM you his details and you can send him a picture and see? He was confident that he could repair most things leather but that might not be so.

It's worth a try Watty, but the cobbler (who is generally brilliant) says it's something to do with the glues that are used in some kinds of boots, and Dubarry's website says that splits a cross the vamp can't be repaired. If he thinks he can, then it would be worth it, as I had to go and lie down when I saw the price of a new pair!

Old stuff lasts way longer and is better quality than most new things unless you buy boots that generally haven't changed how they make them nor the quality of materials...so I think you've done well getting a loved pair repaired.

@greenbee that brand is gorgeous but luckily does not do them small enough for me (I have tiny feet) which is how I came by now repaired boots in the first place. They were a cheaper option 😉 and not quite as fabulous but made them in a size smaller than their usual size range for me as the brand was just starting out.

Possibly have a cat living in the hay barn. I've been wondering about this for a while as this winter I only saw a few mice and no rats. Mr Self Sufficiency in the next field has A LOT of chickens. He sells the eggs, rarely mucks out and feeds them by just tossing rain over the fence of their pen and shed. Given this would usually cause a mouse/rat issue I have been thinking it was odd and there are always mice and rats around yards so I assumed this was because the old lady that spoils has a few cats and they do visit from time to time
However just recently in the evening I have seen a cat in the barn. Usually runs off but last night just jumped behind some hay bales when I went in. Then late night VNM saw said cat asleep on the hay and this time cat did not move just watched him collect hay for the horses.
I'm fine with a cat living in there, but, obviously want to make sure cat is not someone's lost pet so keeping a watching brief for a few days and hopefully can get a photo to check with the neighbours. Have asked VNM to try to get a photo too as cat is usually there late at night.

How nice to have a barn cat Watty :) If it isn't a neighbour's, it might be worth trapping and taking to the vet for a chip scan. And if you decide to keep it as a barn cat, making sure it's been spayed/neutered.
Your boots sound as if they were a wise financial investment. Mine clearly weren't - although 10 years ago the price was less eye-watering!

My first kitten (and my first pet as a child) was born in a barn to a barn cat. She was feral as anything and drove my mother mad 🤣. I loved her to bits ❤️.

Didn't see cat last night. Will just watch out, it may belong to a neighbour and like staying out for sleepovers. However, I will keep an eye out, try and get a good description/photo and check with neighbours and if that draws a blank, will trap it and take to vet for a microchip check and if none neuter and return to barn and look after cat there. Or see if the man over the road will take in, he has a lot of cats that have just found their way there and move in.
