Going to assume there's no power of attorney? Might be worth starting the ball rolling on that as I believe it can take a long time if the person doesn't have capacity.

indeed but all I can think is how long would one spend looking for the car keys in a place like that!! (or the scissors which also disappear regularly or for that matter my glasses)ladybird1106 said:Wow that is nice, but omg to the price tag.

What an amazing property! But then, what an amazing price...
I will echo @daisy_1571 and say if someone has power of attorney, they should be dealing with those matters, but if there's no POA, in the interests of his sister it may be worth investigating. From memory, where there is no designated person to help handle the money, it could be done by a firm of solicitors but this may mean the money is not used to but 'treats' etc. As his sister has health issues, it would need to be someone who could make informed decisions on those, too.
This might be useful.
You and the VNM both have a lot on your plates, so remember it doesn't have to be done by tomorrow. Also consider that while the house will need money spent on it, a lower price could mean it will go to someone who will absolutely treasure it. We sold my parents' house to a young family and the little girl was thrilled to choose her bedroom. They will have had to spend a lot to bring it up to date but they will also have all the benefits of living there which we enjoyed.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

There is no power of attorney - it seems the care home have the say in whatever happens to her. I'm not sure that is correct. VNM's mother was, quite naturally, obsessed with her care and rang every day and visited her as often as possible but no power of attorney and no social worker as far as I can make out.
I'm just going to shelve that one. I suspect she does need POA and her mother was very determined about doing things "her own way" so I suspect it never was dealt with appropriately. Having discovered the accounts have less than £10 per account I'm just going to let them go dormant.
At a later stage we can look into the whole POA thing. I think for now lets just get the house sold which I am fairly sure means a new agent and new motivations.

I really don't want to add to your load, but please make sure you look into that POA carefully before the house is sold. Before the care home gets a whiff of it. Still not urgent but certainly a pre-sale job.3

That sounds like a healthy conversation between you and VNM and a good relationship bit of helping and having boundaries.
Sounds a solid suggestion to get her house patched up then put it back on the market at a bit lower. Might be better doing it in spring anyway as property market is meant to be slowest over winter.
Excellent input from @badmemory
Oh my gosh to the property your friend sent you!
The horses can each have their own bedroom 😍😂
So are you feeling to enquire about the Snowdonia one VNM said would work?!5
